I kinda like hickey suits except the the high button stance, which is a deal breaker. The lapels are also a little too thin for me but for a skinny guy going for that look, it's a nice suit for the money. I have a couple pair of odd trousers and they get regular use.

I'm 36S and I LOVE the fit. Boss Red Label is cut bigger so you know it's real slim. The pants are a real ballhugger at 7inch drop but you can let them out. Luckily i'm a skinny dude and had zero alterations except sleeves and plain bottoms. Totally worth the money guys. Plus the convenience of the web is a small price to pay if you're a busy guy. I know that i got no time AT ALL to shop for suits cuz the closest OFF5TH or Rack is like 45 min away from me.

Mostly interested in shoulders and length (from bottom of collar).

The shoulders are the same as a 36 on the mainline HF. Length of the S and R are still the same as mainline

Not short actually. same length as the mainline. for some reason HF sleeve length is short on me.

How do I know?
I work at the MW and since the company bought an oddlot of suits, me(36s) and my friend(38s) ordered a **** ton of hickey product in our size to our store. 36S hickey line was perfect. 36S HF mainline was perfect for my friend. 38S hickey line fit him perfectly so then 38S mainline = 36S hickey line with the exception of styling like lapel width and stuff like that

JTheory - any chance you can get measurements on a 38s for me?

If what you are saying is true, I think a 38s might be perfect for me.

(I'm looking for ~ 17" shoulders and ~ 29" BOC length). Chest of around 20-20.5" pit to pit.

So a few things... These suits are worth it for $500?

Are they canvassed? I am very slim and need a slimmer fitting suit. (i.e. Hugo Boss Jam Sharp, BB Milano..)

I'm normally a S jacket length but hopped on the R because, frankly, those 36S sizes were gone the second I signed in yesterday and I wanted one regardless. Anybody know the jacket length difference between the two (and if there are any other differences)?

Not sure, but on most jackets it's anywhere from 0.5 - 1" difference. (Usually closer to 1"). You could probably have a tailor take an inch off the bottom if it is too long without upsetting the balance too much.

hickey is half-canvassed.

as others have pointed out, it is not quite a slim cut... more an athletic cut. roomier in the chest and sleeves than most "slim" suits.

for $500, i do believe they are a good deal. the materials are typically really very good, as good as HF mainline, and the construction overall is solid.

i do wish they'd cut the jackets a bit longer, go easier on the shoulder padding, and lower the button stance, which is bordering on comically high. with these tweaks, they'd make perfect beater suits at that price.

I ordered one of the worsted two button suits. It's impossible finding an OTR athletic suit with a 7 drop and natural shoulders, so I'm giving it a shot. I also ordered a second pair of worsted trousers from the sale that may or may not match the suit, which would give me a drop 8. Like someone else said, the high button stance doesn't excite me, but I'll give it a shot. I wear a suit once a month so I'm not going for MTM yet. I was going to try an get a Luigi Bianchi Mantova suit last week but they didn't carry 40l.

Received today. I think it's a pretty good value for 500 on Gilt, but I'm going to send mine back. The sleeves are cut too large and there is too much shoulder padding.

Thats impressive that you received your so quickly. Thanks for following up with your experience. Gilt makes you to believe that they are slim cut suits. I am very slim and would have been upset based off the cuts others have described.

Thanks y'all!

Neiman Marcus Last Call online (lastcall.com) is having 30% their entire site. Hickey Freeman suits (not Hickey, I believe) are going for about $420.00 after 30% off $599.00. The colors are black, grey, tan, and grey with burgundy stripes in most sizes. 5 minutes ago, they still had some 38R and 38S. There is a black suit in 36S. Hope this post helps!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
