New poster here, so sorry for any naivety or posting in the wrong forum.
For quite some time I have been on a search for my perfect shirt, like many of us. A few years back I acquired a Filson shirt that was constructed out of their cover cloth - unwaxed. This poplin is somewhere in the 6-8oz range and is probably rather similar, if not the same, as Willis & Geiger's bush poplin. British Millerain manufactures thousandths of yards of poplin in this weight range but it is all waxed and used in outerwear as far as I can find. For the life of me I don't understand why there aren't more shirts made out of this type of fabric. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place? It's bullet proof, perfect in cold and hot weather, doesn't wrinkle easily, and can be washed a thousand times. Unfortunately, all the shirts I find made out of this fabric are khaki and often have goofy epaulettes. I am interested in having a popover made with an emphasis on functionality and range of movement. Something I can take fishing/hunting but still wear out to town without looking like a 19th century British colonist. Most tailors and bespoke shirt makers are limited to their current fabric stock and fabric mills they work with which is typically 3oz poplins.
If someone could point me in the right direction for a tailor who might have access to this kind of fabric, or even a mill that produces a "bush poplin" it would be much appreciated!
