I work in insurance. Most of our "sales" (underwriters) don't dress in suit & tie unless they're going out to get business from brokerages, and their sense of dress is pretty terrible. I'd have to say everyone who makes it to AVP and upwards don't dress poorly, but some of them just get by.

My ex SVP was well groomed/suited but he's tall, is a runner and looks like someone Brooks Brothers(well he shops Harry Rosen) targets for conservative stuff. My current boss is female so I can't comment.

Of course, this is all North America. When I was posted in London, the mail room bloke was in a full suit & tie (dark suit, white shirt, dark tie) every day wearing the jacket while sorting mail at his desk. We brought in a consultant who would take his jacket off when handling network cables but who otherwise had his jacket back on all other times. Of course we also worked in the square mile so maybe that had something to do with it but when I was there, it didn't seem to have anything to do with status.

At one of my previous jobs, my CEO saw me in a suit during a day off and thought I was out interviewing at other companies. He gave me a 20% raise the next day.

Well, I'm not in the working world yet (18 year old sophomore in college), but I find that since I dress better than the majority of my peers, guys and girls, sadly, I get looks and smiles and generally more attention just walking around. It's not even hard to outdress the kids I go to school with, but I'm not complaining. All I'll say is that if I never see another pair of Uggs again, I'll be ok with it.

Sho'nuff. But I guess comparing some unkwown joking poster to your 12-year-old nephew is showing pretty nice manners, indeed. Worse : the whole part on my moth clothes & smelling beard is true. That's why we all want to die within my family. Exeunt omnes.

I'm lobbying to get this box added to our annual performance evaluations:

The employee's suits are:

[ ] Ready-to-wear
[X] Made-to-measure
[ ] Bespoke
