My last batch of t-shirts came several months late, with nothing by way of apology or explanation. They also changed the cut of the shirts such that these are unwearable for me. I think I’m done with with them.

Gustin would do well to listen to their customers (updating fits, improving quality control…) but they appear to be content doing things their way.

Their shirts for example. How many of us are among the 1% of the population with extremely narrow, elongated torsos?

Fortunately the shirts are a non-starter for me. T-shirts are fine, in fact I can wear an XL with no issues, but the regular shirts... I can't even button them around my chest, which I why I finally resorted to MTM for all my office shirts. Otherwise they'd probably just get all my money because they've some great patterns.

@Funcheese I've got an elongated torso, but I've also got a 50" chest, 18.5" neck so it's not even close with their shirts. Can't even get them buttoned around the chest, but I'm not going to wear them unbuttoned to my waist; I lack the gold chains to pull that off and I have a serious aversion to the word "bro". :p

And another thing; I backed a t-shirt campaign a month ago. If 100% funded they were to arrive in September. It didn’t reach even 50% in the time allotted but rather than nix that campaign they just keep moving back the date to complete funding. So, as of today, if they do fully fund they’ll arrive sometime in November. Trè lame indeed.

They refunded me. Glad to see it. I took weight measurements for them comparing the various t-shirts I've received from the past. This batch was somewhere between the Pimas I wanted (I got some from the in-stock to test them out) and some old Heavyweight T I got a few years ago and it was right in the middle. They said that there's 2 different Pimas they use, but it did sound off and they were going to check them because there's a significant price premium between pima and the other stock. I dunno, but black heavyweight t-shirts in this Valley heat ******* suuuuuuuuuuuucks lol. Hopefully they'll get it resolved because their pima is really good. So silky and light.

I guess people aren't really liking Gustin these days?...
Anyone have any experience with the straight fit or vintage straight?

I love the denim shacket I have from Gustin, but the pants/jeans I've gotten all don't match the expected size and the jeans shrunk way more than expected. I like their model but don't buy more because of these issues.

Which denim shacked did you get? I just ordered this: https://www.weargustin.com/store/shirts-75-okayama-standard-workshirt
Could you say more about the pant sizing? I think these look awesome: https://www.weargustin.com/store/jeans-326-harris-tweed-5-pocket-rust-multi-herringbone
But what I don't understand is they don't offer hemming but they are made to order. I am not going to wait weeks/months only to take a chance on sizing with no return guarantee, and then I still have to go get them hemmed.

I don’t like jeans with a 36” inseam, and I feel like a twelve-year old wearing them cuffed. But I’m also too lazy to get them cuffed, so I haven’t bought anything from them for a few years.

I got https://www.weargustin.com/store/shirts-139-big-sky-workshirt and it's awesome. Love wearing it. The one you linked to look really nice too.

For pants, I think wool will be different vs. denim, but the waist for the jeans I got shrunk like 2" after washing and was too tight to wear. I got a linen denim jeans (https://www.weargustin.com/store/jeans-402-japan-linen-100-denim-indigoxblack) and the waist was just smaller than expected so I just returned it.

The items aren't really "made to order". Once they have enough orders, they do a manufacturing run of whatever the item is.
So you are ordering a standard size, but they don't make them until the order either uses up all of the available material, or uses the minimum required to be ordered from the source.

It isn't like you pick a custom denim, custom measurements, and custom inseam.

Regarding sizing, I have found that most of the denim will shrink an inch in waist size and 1-2 inches in length if you wash it in warm water and toss them into the dryer. I'm lazy and gave up on the whole hand wash hang dry nonsense except for some older jeans that will shrink too much if I toss them in the washer and dryer.

If you hand wash them in cold and let them hang dry, it is about half that.

The lighter-weight denim seems to stretch back out in the waist to the original size fairly quickly. The heavier weight (over 15oz or so) doesn't stretch out quite that much.

I've found the sizing is usually pretty close to the size charts.

That said, I do not own any of the wool pants. I do not think they will stretch as much as denim, and I don't think they will shrink as much when washed. I would probably order them based on the size you want them to fit as, not the size you hope they will stretch to.

One final note. Gustin finds some odd denim. Some of it does not obey any of the above general statements. It may shrink a lot, or it may not shrink at all. If you see something that is not your normal 10-14oz cotton denim in some odd blend, I can't say what will happen.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)
