Something that also looks promising is the Nissan Juke, which will be all wheel drive and about the same horsepower as the GTI. One nice thing about the GTI is that it also comes in a 4 door model if that's a need for you.

4-door ftw!

It is something that always bugged me about the previous generations of GTIs...they made them in 4-door variants almost everywhere but here.

It makes the car become super practical but still a ton of fun.

Car and Driver even profiled the RX-8 in a cover story on tremendous performance value last year.

Do buy the warranty, though.

I wanted an RX-8 while I was in college. Living in the City I'd probably prefer something small but off the beaten path, like the Volvo C30 with sport trim.

I think it'd be pretty funny to see Kunk get out of a hot hatch like the GTI. The 135 is a much more "grown up" car imo.

BMW should make a 135d. And make it available in the US. And with a manual transmission. In hatchback form.

Kunk wanted a GTI...what is with all of these people posting non-hatchbacks that cost two GTIs?

Also, the GTIs really don't look all that boy-racer/hot hatch--especially if you go 4-door and pass on any sort of flashy rimzzzzz

What boy-racer would opt for plaid seats? come on...

You can buy the 335d in the States. I wish the A4 allroad was available here with a manual or if slushbox only with a 3.0TDI engine.

+1. I don't see a GTI as being boy-racerish at all.

Yes, you're right. But not with a manual transmission (forgot to add that part).

2009+ Subaru Impreza WRX Sedan

The STI only comes in hatch which makes it look ricer-boy-ish. 2008 WRX is a completely different (and worse) car.

The new body styling of the WRX is much more professional and grown-up looking. It is also faster than the previous models. It is 4-door so you can keep it if you get kids. 5 star safety rating. AWD 4banging turbo is awesome. It has a ton of low end power so you don't have to rev it up to go quick.

It is everything I was looking for so it is what I bought so I have put my money where my mouth is

I have heard the GTI has a nice interior and better sound/speakers, but I was looking pure performance and the WRX won this game in my mind.

TTAC raved about the new Ford Fiesta, although I don't think the interior space is quite as large as a GTI.. And I think the new world Focus will probably be pretty stellar.

pretty much every car in that category has been named... random stuff that may or may not have been mentioned:

maybe a clubman s? or, the new alfa romeo giulietta? focus rs or focus w/ ecoboost would be stellar as well when the new one comes out.
