I agree that championships depend on many other factors and thus can be overweighted. But at the end of the day, winning does count for something.

Also, if you're going to discount winning as a relevant factor, you also have to discount other stats to at least a certain extent. Having a decent (or better than decent) offensive line will make any QB's stats look a lot better. The same is true, perhaps to lesser extent, about the quality of receivers.

Great point. The fact that Brady has gone 14-3 in the playoffs throwing mostly to David Givens, David Patten, Deion Branch, Reche Caldwell, and Jabar Gaffney says a lot compared to Manning's 7-8 record throwing to Marvin Harrison, Wayne, Clark, and Edge/Addai.

Shouldn't Aikman be in this discussion somewhere?

He won 3 Super Bowls, had a 125 passer rating in 1993, was the first QB in Cowboy history to have three straight 3,000 yard passing seasons, won the Davey O'Brien award (for best QB) as a senior in college and is in the College and Pro Hall of Fame.

I have a soft spot for Aikman. He was a member of my fraternity, and would come back and visit once in awhile while I was there. He is also a super nice guy. He was not, however, that level of quarterback, and his passer rating in '93 was 99, not 125

Great point. The fact that you ignore half of the equation is cool too.

this might be for another discussion, but does anyone actually think that marv would be anything worth talking about without peyton?

Yes. I didn't follow him closely, but in his prime I saw him make some ridiculous plays.

if #12 wins one this year will he be tops? if he finished off the undefeated campaign?

Can he be the greatest if he is just the best field manager and maybe lacks the greatest arm?

I'd say Peyton is better. Brady has a lot of things going for him, but managing the game ON THE FIELD is one of the areas where Manning is all-world.

I had to laugh at this picture today. He looks good, but what must his teammates think of him dressing like this upon boarding a transatlantic flight?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
