I think the concern would be more so if the holes created by the stitch are exposed on a particular pair is water more likely to get in via said exposed holes compared to a pair where they are not exposed? Cosmetic preferences aside that would be my personal concern in heavy rain, slush, or snow. I realize that none of these boots are advertised as waterproof or anything like that. So it is more so 'does this affect the degree of potential water resistence'?
I cannot speak to slush or snow. In my experience with my pair, if it rains, you will have wet socks.

“Just patina picks going forward” your very words. You appear to really enjoy your field boots so try not complaining and just give us great locations where those boots are stomping. Cheers bro.
Quick stop in Berkeley, CA

@Genericuser1 I might be in the minority, but I really like those sky blue reverse kudu Diesels.

Sadly for me, summer is officially here in SoCal, which means that my GS boots go into storage for a long time. The 4 months of June gloom are officially over.
Im from a tropical region, with very mild winters and two months of very hot summer. I wear my boots, especially GS, year round very comfortably. Try it, and I'm sure you won't have to put away any of your boots into storage during the summer months. 😁

Dune Ottawas today.

I have a preference for boots but I don't wear them as much when it gets hot too. The Sky blue I tend to wear more in the Spring as it's happy, bright color.

I'm going to be inside usually with AC so the boot/shoe doesn't really matter but then summer provides me a time to wear, boat shoes, slip-ons, weaves, spectators and just shoes in general.

Weekends I'm in shorts so I live in boat shoes or sneakers.

Boots and jeans in the summer just seems like masochism to me lol
Today’s high is 90 with 71% humidity.

Love the patina on the dune Ottowas. Anyone know why some natty CXL seems to patina a more orange/warm brown and others seem to just turn more neutral mid brown?

Is it the leather itself that’s different or something about the wear and care routine producing a different outcome?

I live in SoCal also, but wear boots year round because I ride. I keep a pair of North Face flip flops and O'Neil board shorts in my saddle bags though. Lol

My 2 cents is the diesel is more rugged because the eyelets are larger and the heal cap has a sewn line. The Edward is more streamline with smaller eyelets and no triple stitch on the vamp. Although the tobacco wax commander leather is the quickest patina there is check out bootlosophy on YouTube talk about his tobacco wax commander. If you ride have you considered the red wing spitfire blacksmith because that boot is way more rugged than either grant stone offerings and screams yes I ride motorcycles or work in a shop.

Grant Stone dangling carrots by letting us select EEE width penny bourbon suede already. 2024 can't come soon enough.

You guys just order your regular size with loafers?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
