I had a chance to buy out a dealer of his A thornburn collection about 4 maybe 4 11/2 years ago. I regret not doing it. This was back when his dress knives were going for about $380-$650. The ~$650 was his engraved, damasteel blades top end knives.

Yeah, I can see why you might regret passsing on that as well. However at the time there's just no way you could have known what they would be worth now.

I too carry an Opinel No. 8 and have since it was gifted to me in 1984.
It has the carbon steal blade which gives an aged look about it but it is still an elegant piece. Keeps a razor sharp edge as well.
I see that Opinel puts out collector's editions with exotic woods that sometimes look quite nice.
Another Opinel, my No. 12, stays with the picnic basket.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
