No, we are not the same person. I just saw stilmacher's post, copied his picture and added the marks. Then I sended him the picture since I did not intend to post it at the beginning. Subsequently, I changed my mind and posted it. Meanwhile, Stilmacher had already added the picture and therefore I asked him to remove it. Sorry for the confusion.

Is it just me or others also think the broguing on the G&G (3rd and 4th pics) look distinctively cheap?

Dear Mr Hasegewa, I am happy you are viewing this thread and it is great that you are working on optimising your product. That you are taking this seriously means that you are likely to be sucessfull. Please understand, that it is not my intention to harm your business, besides I don't think I could harm your reputation on this forum, even if I tried. In this thread I only wanted to confirm the impression this particular shoe made on me and being a fan of leveled discussion I was hoping to make a point. In fact I am already in contact with Dean and hopefully I will see him on my next visit to London to order my own pair of your shoes to see what its really all about. Bon chance Carl

Dear Carl-san,

Thank you for your kind reply.

We are pleased to know that you are in contact with Dean.

Gaziano and Girling kicked off only in September 2006.
It is quite embarrassing, but we are still going through teething
problems. However, we are pleased to let you know that
we have recently upgraded our production facilities and added
staffs. This will enable us to be polymorphously consistent in
order to achieve higer quality and enable us to quote more accurate
turnaround time.

We read another one of your threads and we are disturbed to learn that
your experience at our corner at Chittleborough and Morgan at
Nutter, 12 Savil Row. did not meet your expectations. Please
accept our most sincere apologies. With regard to having a proper
shop in London, since we are not a multimillion pounds company
unlike our competitors such as Edward Green or John Lobb Paris,
we are ashamed to tell you that we cannot afford one now.
Hopefully there will be time when we are ready...........

Meanwhile, looking forward to serving you in the nearest future, we remain,

Your obedient servants,

Masaichi Hasegawa, Director
Gaziano and Girling Limited

A factory can make the waist bevelled as bespoke makers but to do that they need to treat the welt and sole in the area that will be bevelled the same way as bespoke makers does. This is of course a matter of economy. But if a factory so decide they can end up closer to the look of a bespoke shoe by taking some time using an edge iron. This little tool make magic things! (I think I posted some photos of how it is done somewhere here on S.F. or maybe it was on A.A.) As shown on the photos in this tread there is a flat area where the heel meet the sole. This is the mark from the heel cutter and most of it if not all will disappear by the use of the edge iron. I know this because I use a heel cutter and an edge iron my self on semi-hand made shoes. Just some tips for factories

It's interesting to see the poise G&G management exhibits under fire, so unlike the Vass (USA) debacle.

Interesting comments about the rounded waist segment converging into the square heel through hand carving of the side of the sole.

I like the pictures of the alpha model for G&G shoes, but, if I am not mistaken, the EG top drawer program shoes do in fact have that separation between the square heel and beveled waist. I see that as higher quality in every regard, but it is not a fair comparison as EG Top Drawer is running 1700 USD I think.

One thing the EG doesn't have that I like is the extremely high, pitched, heel that I see on G&G.

Big Question:

Lets say I have a favorite pair of EG shoes made to their "standard" spec.

Let's say I'm happy with the last and sizing.

Let's further say that I am happy with the upper in every way, but that the shoe needs a rebuild.

Here it comes... will EG rebuild my regular shoe to the Top Drawer specs for a higher fee? If so, does anyone know what that would be?

Thanks.

Agreed. They underestimated demand, that's all. Its a good problem for a new business to have. Give them a year or two to work out the bugs.
