And their reactions (guess it depends on how old they're)? I came to the States for boarding school in 1998. My parents were debating between I stay in Taiwan or come to America alone (mom was a teacher, but she didn't like the education system in Taiwan, dad believe I would turn out fine either way).
At the end my dad asked me, do you want to see the world (in the sense US was the strongest country in the world, so seeing the world through American lenses). I don't know why, but as a 15 years old I said yes, because I want to be the best in the world (or change the world). Though I think by that account I have come out quite short
