That’s dumb. I kinda enjoy the creative “cheating” (if it even is cheating) like the RBR brake bias or the MCL flexi wings. That isn’t fun or creative at all.

This is also dumb:

I like the extra gamesmanship that happens around that extra point for fastest lap. I’m even in favor of having more ways to score points, like fastest pit stop or collecting Mario kart shells on the track

You are wrong on both counts. :)

Fastest lap was worth trying, but it turned out to be a big dud.

Saw that Ricciardo’s Enchanté brand is having an activation with Cashapp in Austin. Combined with Austin’s plan to give him a key to the city, whoops…

My only regret with the fastest lap is that not enough drivers ate wall trying to set it.

It’s Red Bull: https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/...1-team-at-centre-of-ride-height-device-probe/

I think the fastest lap point should have been available to anyone that set it, not just the top 10.

And I think they should scrap Sprint races going towards WDC points and only have them count to constructor points with a rule that requires a team's reserve/jr driver participate in each sprint leaving it up to the team to decide who the 2nd sprint driver is from their 2 regular pilots.

I would make it a separate championship with reverse-WDC-order grids. The incentive would be additional prize money and/or wind-tunnel/CFD runs for the top three sprint teams. For young drivers, I would alternate between the two cars similar to how the currently mandated young driver FP1 sessions have be split between the two entries.

Alternatively, make the sprint races effectively a third car with a young driver requirement. In that case, use a sprint quali to set the grid. The regular drivers would be happy to sit it out.

That was a fantastic sprint race. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a challenge for the lead. COTA is an excellent track.

Qualifying was an anticlimax. Max looked like he was on for pole before George killed the session.

The old Max is back. If it benefits him, he'll crash out the both of you. Worst spot on the calendar to have pole.

My thoughts:

1. You're better off qualifying second than winning pole at this track.
2. Max is still Max. I was just thinking what great, fair driving he was doing to defend when he runs Lando off the track.
3. He ran Lando off the track, and the place should have been Lando's.
4. Did anyone really believe that the stewards weren't going to rule in Red Bull's favor?
5. McLaren should have known 4 and had Lando immediately give the place back, so he could have a few more shots at Max.
6. Lando's shot is over now. Just hold on and close out the Constructors Championship and maybe see if you can get Oscar ahead of LeClerc.

I'm pretty sure that Max's strategy is to just push anyone off the track if they try to pass him on the outside.
