We have not been, although back when we were fishing more (pre-kids) I definitely checked it out and was always "planning" as I mulled an inexpensive way to break into the world of salmon. The egalitarian nature of NS regs, plus relative proximity to the NE was very alluring - unfortunately never got up there but it was always "the next trip". I think there is a fair bit of water depending on when you go - the Margaree sticks in my mind...

Yes, Margaree, Cheticamp, Middle River all hold runs fo salmon. The highlands have streams of wild brooks and browns.

I have been to Cape Breton a few times, including solo cycling the Cabot Trail. It's a spectacular island. Even if you don't get to fish, you should take your kids up there for a trip.

Nice! He is killing it: he should get his reel (and the fish) out of the dirt....

Whatever. I don't like to be too dogmatic as long as people are following the local regulations, but if you're not going to eat the fish then leave it in the water...

Romafan I definitely agree, I take special care even when handling fish for the picture. Always have to think about sustainability and in all honestly we all want these fish to continue growing so we can come back and catch it at a larger state in life. I'm not sure what the situation is where he caught this carp and yes it was concrete but I know a lot of bodies of water near us are trying to get rid of carp.

My belief and practice is to respect and preserve the resource. But like I said, if someone is following regs I am not inclined to get all PC (especially for a carp!) over a picture. It does bother me when someone takes their limit just b/c they can, especially when the catch ends up in parking lot trash can or tossed in the bushes.

Right there with you, coming from bass fishing I strictly practice catch and release.

The reel and carp on the concrete are not what's wrong with that picture.

Combat fishing in the Catskills this weekend with at least a dozen clubs hosting events. Poor fish. I finally gave up and drove and hour to a bug factory riffle that no one knows about on a river that you can't get to from here. Managed to hook every fish I cast to. A local kid showed up at the end and had no luck with his spining rod so I whacked the last fish I caught and gave it to him and his dad.
