Filson Bag Thread: With Pictures

Neat trick with the eBags price match. I tried it with a Filson wallet I just ordered. I sent the request last night, and this morning I got an email saying they were going to refund me the difference. Cool.

I already have the 30% cash back pending in my Bing account. For those who tried this, did they adjust the amount they were giving as cash back? They don't let you access that money for 60 days to allow for possible returns and such, so perhaps they also use that time adjust for additional discounts. Or perhaps they just miss this little wrinkle. I'm curious how this will pan out.

PS Now I have my eye on Filson rucksack, but eBags only has it in green, not my favorite color. Do I bite the bullet and pull the trigger at this price? Dilemmas...

I just got the Filson 257 with the neat pricematch/bing cashback trick, but I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has any experience with the wear and tear on the bottom of the bag. I know its a heavy-duty waxed canvas (believe the 257 has two layers of canvas on the bottom), but even after a few years of daily use I'd imagine that wear and tear would take its toll and I'm wondering how long it takes until the the first (or even the second) layer of the bag would start wearing away and I'd have to go buy a new briefcase. Would it be prudent to go to a leather-worker and perhaps have them attach a nice thick strip of bridle leather to the bottom as a bit of padding/protectant?

I doubt you would need to. I have a 258 that I have lugged all over campus for a year and a half with zero wear showing to the bottom. It is frequently set down on concrete, bricks, etc. I have seen bags with frayed edges and corners but I suspect that is after years of abuse. They are very tough bags.

In terms of dimensions, it is similar - just thinking the backpack could have more uses as the 257 has compartments.

I'm assuming the small carry-on bag does not have as many compartments. Pictures of the back pack or small carry-on bag would be appreciated, thanks.

I just picked up the 257 in tan yesterday and am very happy with the purchase! I was going to order the 256 online today, but saw the 257 sitting on a sale table at Bloomingdales yesterday. After the comments I've been reading, I was expecting this bag to be huge. IMHO, that's not the case. It's the perfect size for my needs. I won't be carrying much, but I like to have the option of being able to squeeze a few more books in there if I need to. Even with only a small book, keys, wallet, etc., the bag does not feel too big. I can't beleive I've lived with my Ogio bag for so long!

BTW: the bag was not supposed to be on sale, but the manager honored the 25% off price since it was clearly intened to be part of the "on sale" display.

btw, a warning: purchased a 257 on eBags.com via bing.com and did not receive the 20-30% cashback promised. Banner was up on the page but nothing pending after 3 days. Have sent an email to bing.com, will let you know they outcome but this may be a $16.95 shipping mistake...beware!

Yep, ours in SD has a few of the bags, including the wool (?) ones with the plaid pattern, a tote and maybe something larger. Kinda funny seeing them displayed actually
