Hey guys...I was wondering, when did Filson stop putting the date codes into the most recent twill bags? On a recent trip, I found a Small Duffle and Medium Duffle in OG in a small shop and they were still at the old prices (and discounted another 15%) so I grabbed them both. The Small Duffle was made in 5/16 and the Medium Duffle has a newer style tag with a LOT of superfluous information on it but no date code. The twill on this (I assume newer) bag feels softer, less waxy and ever so slightly thinner.
I also have a 258 with a date code tag from 6/20, so I am guessing the removal of the date code is a fairly recent development. Coincidentally, a few months ago I bought a Small Pullman in OG directly from Filson and the bag I received was 2/17. It is pretty crazy that Filson is sitting on inventory like that for 5-6 years.
Any insight from the veterans on the thread would be greatly appreciated...thanks!
Do the zippers on the medium duffle say “Filson,” “YKK,” or “Talon?”
Yeah, yet another change that while in reality it doesn’t really make any difference, it always feels more like old fashioned American Manufacturing when they care enough to put the date of manufacture on the item. Instead, they add a bunch of jibberish that makes zero sense to anyone except their internal teams.Hey guys...I was wondering, when did Filson stop putting the date codes into the most recent twill bags? I don’t know why they did that, but a little note about how they manufacture. The reason you’re getting an older bag is that they only make their union made items in bulk runs as needed. My guess would be that the small Pullman was a slower mover so they didn’t need to make more for a long period. It’s also possible that that bag was sent to say the London store and didn’t sell and when they closed up shop it was sent back and you ended up ordering it. Impossible to know!
What’s the story behind that 286?Wow...this thread is a ghost town nowadays! I have been reading through the last couple of years and it seemed like a really cool vibrant community...sorry I missed it! I have been into Filson on and off since 2012 and have recently been scrambling to get the pieces that I want to enjoy before Bedrock moves all production offshore.
In any event, here is a picture of my newest and oldest Filson bag...enjoy!

What’s the story behind that 286?
Yeah, would love to see more pics of it!It is an FRD 256 that I purchased back in the summer of 2016 when my wife and I visited the Filson flagship store in Seattle. It was re-constructed by Claire Beaumont and has new handles, a new YKK zipper with contrast stitching, and a lot of corner reinforcements and stitchwork.
It is from the era when the FRD bags were assigned a limited number. The "motto tag" was remounted to leather and the edition number was embossed in the leather. I am planning to do an entire write up about the bag with a bunch of new pics in the near future!

Not sure if you got your problem fixed but I tried the Zero Odor Pro spray on my bags today and seems to have worked. Hopefully for the long run.. Might need a few applications depending on how strong the smell is.Good call! I talked to Filson. They recommended working with New England Reproofers. https://www.newenglandreproofers.com/pricingorder/
