Took a quick trip to visit my folks in Florida last week and it felt great to take out my Filson bags and to get a little of that Florida sunshine. Yes, @mgrennier we did spent a day in Sanibel and Captiva and it was phenomenal. We ate at the Mucky Duck at sunset outdoors in 80 degree weather that was not too dry and not too humid under a cloudless sky. Really was a perfect time away. Anyways, I got to use my gear and that also made me very happy. I am extremely impressed with the large check in bag. It is sturdy and wheels around very comfortably. Capacity is also nearly perfect for what we need. Also tried out a rucksack that I picked up and actually really enjoyed that too. The Ranger continues to be a one bag solution travel workhorse. The Ranger was my bag and the check in and ruck were my wife’s bags. Lol. Oh and one more small detail... we have a much smaller future filsonite and styleforum stylish dinosaur on the way ;)

Congrats on the baby. For a diaper bag...get a backpack. Even if it's not Filson. The 261 is great for travel; but for general going out and when you are on the move, the ability to have both hands free is invaluable.

Yes. Hands free is the way to go. We used a Timbuktu messenger bag - with a wipe clean interior! And at a pinch the big flap can be used as a changing mat. See my remarks about wipe clean above...

Anyway - far more important @TinMan3 - huge congratulations! Properly life changing stuff :)

This comment was right on time for what arrived at my doorstep earlier this week. I think this probably meets all the criteria that I am looking for with the exception of a “wipe clean” interior @speedy611 ?. But you guys know that for me it’s going to have to be a Filson so this may be as good as it’s gonna get. First edition journeyman including old tag, cell pocket, rivets and leather strip at the top of the back side of the bag. I’ve been drooling over @CCF1897 journeyman for a long time so when I got this it was a welcome and timely find. Anyways, it has been entered into the candidate pool for best Filson dad bag.

That’s a wonderful bag I had the exact same but just sold it recently. Which I’m ok with.
Now thinking of a Ranger. Just for the hell of it

Need to sell either my small Pullman or my 242. Any takers?

I know this color combo isn’t for everyone, and some may even take issue with it in light of the general outdoorsy aesthetic of Filson bags, but I’m pretty darned excited about this bag because these colors are a personal favorite. I really appreciate the guys who helped me acquire this bag. It’s certainly not something you’d see every day, and it even came with a name: Bengal 256 ??

The tragedy is that I bought one of the iPad cases for dirt cheap when I first started my filson journey and sold it for $70. At the time I was happy I made a few bucks on it but I have regretted selling it many many times. It is definitely added to my list of things to watch for! Also love the tweed versions. When I’m not using for a baby anymore I could definitely use it as a handgun case as well so it’s a win win.

After some research and deliberation with some of you fine folks, it seems like the sportsman utility bag is simply too large for most of the new baby needs. Also a bit of research tells me that the backpack is one of the most popular styles. I did happen upon a beautiful journeyman the other day which should arrive tomorrow and if it’s as nice as I think it will be it could be a serious contender and I could cut ties with the sportsman once again. I do also have a nice talon 261 that I’ve had for a while, but the lack of organization and lack of strap concern me a bit since I really feel like I’m going to need my hands.

Today was our “gender reveal” and it was a lot of fun. I used the large grab and go tote to carry all the decorations and my FRD 260 for personal stuff (camera/flask/AirPods/etc). The grab and go continues to impress with exceptional capacity. I would really like if it had a leather handle snap like the 257s. Not a fan of the nylon handle feel compared with leather. Otherwise, one of the most practical bags I own. And I won’t leave y’all hanging. It’s a Boy! Sorry no Filson in the photo.

ok guys. Really excited that I believe I’ve found a great reason to (finally) use my 232 field bag.

I have decided to pick up photography again as a hobby. I just picked up a new Nikon Z 50 and will be using the medium field bag to carry my gear. The Nikon Z series is great because there is an adapter you can buy to use all of your old F type lenses.

In any case. Here’s where I need your advice. I am posting a picture that I found from the Internet about a guy who modified his medium feel bag with snaps so that it’s easier to access the insides instead of having to unbuckle two straps.

What are your thoughts on this look? Does it ruin the aesthetic of the bag? The copy of the 232 I have is incredibly perfect, from 2008, and just in incredible shape. I don’t want to ruin it.

Yeah, I would never do that. I like the buckles and the security they provide. If you want it easy to access, leave it unbuckled.

Regarding easier access, I’ve never fully buckled my straps. Usually just the first loop and it’s been secure enough for my needs.
I don’t carry a 232 much these days but I did before as it was my first Filson

I’d have zero issues modifying the bag to your liking. I’d prefer it as it really is a pain (to me) to unbuckle straps every time I want to get into it.

I sometimes miss my gear

Yep, I’d be reluctant to permanently mod the bag unless you were 100% sure. I think that a bit of creativity with some Chicago screws and strong magnets could be made workable.
