Sure! Talon vs Wool Felt Pad. Both great strap pads.

Awesome Strap Pad! That might be perfect for what i'm looking for. How does it feel when carrying on a hot Chicago summer day with only a polo or a dress shirt on?

Wonder where I can buy one of these as I have just learned that they come with the Weatherproof Leather Line.

So are the padless straps something that pop up with regularity? I don't like this padded version and much prefer my 257 which is padless.

Pad-less Straps are dinosaurs. Rarely popping up on eBay ranging from fare to exuberant in price.

Ok, so here is my new green canvas item...

...just wish the straps were bridle leather!

I’ll shut up now.

:fonz: Me too. I often search for it on google images. @masayako has a great #257 review video on YouTube that shows how his is set up. It's very entertaining and a well done review. Probably the best I've seen on Youtube...behind Chase Reeves of course (24 Hour Briefcase).

The Midori is simply amazing. The leather smells very fresh and rich. I first got inspired to buy one after watching an incredibly entertaining video from my dedicated Tobacco Pipe channel I follow. I'll post the video below. Since I love pens too, having a great, but compact, notebook helps out a ton. Since I have such a great briefcase now, I enjoy filling it up with quality items, and I am on the search for more which excites me. As far as what the backup battery charges, I am not too sure. I use it mainly for my iphone 7 and my work Ipad. I'll include a link below so you can check it out.

I was just thinking the same things. Now that I have a perfect for me briefcase, I need some new cool crap to put in it! I'm slowly getting into notebooks like the one you posted, thanks btw, and gonna need a new real good pen. I just don't want any ink spillage in my new bag. I'm even open to fountain pens if I find one that meets my criteria, as the two things I care about are beautiful writing, and leak proof. I know most of the time those two don't really go together.

I'm actually really liking that Midori notebook now, I can see how it can become an every day tool. I was kind of thinking more of a larger size for projects too, so open to any suggestions. The small size of the Travelers notebook looks cool though, and haven't even considered it until now but it does look great for what it is. Just not sure if I should go with something that size or something larger.

Its funny, for my notebooks I tend to like the larger paper for my hands and writing comfortably (I hate trying to write on something tiny like the very small Moleskins, or on the last line or two at the very bottom of a page), BUT when I look back at my notes and writing style, I'm actually wasting a lot of paper as I tend to write bullet point style most of the time, so the skinner size of the travelers notebook might actually work for me.

I know I want college ruled paper, and a beautiful leather cover. I did see something on a kickstarter site called the Endeavor notebook, which used brass screws to hold the cover onto the notebooks, which looked really cool too. But, i don't think it ever came to market but I know there are many options like that.

Been awhile since I've made a Filson purchase... I'm pretty content with the items I own currently, but have been considering picking up Wool Jac Shirt in Navy or Black... anyone own one? If so, what do you think of it?

My shoulder has never gotten hot from the wool padding. I don’t think there is enough coverage to really make a difference. As far as sourcing one of these, I honestly don’t know. I know you can’t buy them directly from filson, and I’ve never seen one on eBay, so really not sure.

Woods! Contentment is not a common characteristic around here ;) that said, I have 2 jack shirts. One in navy and the other in... you guessed it, black. Well, maybe more grey than black, but close enough. Mine are not the ones they current have for sale. They were special editions from a few years back, but the thickness of the wool should be the same so I can speak to that.

My navy Jac shirt is my most worn garment bar none. It’s comfortable and perfect for 30-45 degrees. I got a size medium, which is true to size, and there was plenty of room for a layer or two underneath which was perfect. Quality is awesome as well. I can take a picture or two if you would like. I actually have a navy cape coat Jac shirt that I am selling and it’s super nice, but sadly it would be too large for you I believe, even though the tag is a medium.

I'd appreciate a few pictures! I need to make a trip over to Austin soon, but it's sooo hot here in Texas currently that it would be unbearable to even try on a wool shirt jacket at the moment... so yes, please post a few pictures. Also, how are they different from the current ones available through Filson? What makes them special editions?

I'm not familiar with navy cape coat jack shirts... could you send a picture of it, as well?

This is the cape coat, super nice jacket, nice snap front and nice side pockets as well. Just a little too much room for my liking.

The second is not that old, but the differences are pretty obvious, corduroy lining throughout and deep moleskin side pockets. Also, the buttons are metal and the style of the cruiser jackets.

The differences are subtle, but really make these jackets unique. This is my Navy Jac Shirt with the classic pocket placements. They did a special run of ‘old style’ garments in 2014. They did a mackinaw wool pullover and a tin cloth vest, this shirt was never sold to the public. They made them for the employees at the time. What makes this unique is the pocket placement and the moleskin lined cuffs, collar, and other moleskin lining throughout.

Really love the second one pictures... I especially like that the bottom isn't straight across, but is cut more like an actual shirt. I'm definitely going to buy a "shirt jacket" this year, and I'd like it to be Filson. We shall see.

Thanks for the photos!

Hey Davey13 - I’ve also found myself searching for the perfect notebook and pen to use as my every day carry. My challenge is that I did NOT want a Mont Blanc (or a similar, too fancy, too ostentatious pen to carry as my EDC). I ended up going with the Lamy 2000 which was originally designed in 1966 and is still in production. Damn good pen. I also have a few other fountain pens from TWSBi (ECO) and others from Lamy (Safari, Al-Star). The 2000 blends in anywhere but has a 14 karat gold nib and is just damn beautiful to me.

Another option would be to check out the Retro 51 line of pens. They have some really cool looking stuff that may work for you.

As far as notebooks - Rhodia or Clairefontaine are where it’s at, in my book. Especially if you go the fountain pen route - stay away from Moleskine because their paper is not well equipped to handle fountain pens.

Interesting hearing about the pen/ notebook choices. I like the tactility and free form options that come from having a pen and paper. I do have a Midori traveller and their fine liner brass pen. (Also their brass pencil box which is beautiful).
But as a tech person I get totally frustrated with not being able to search / share as well as get access from all my devices. For all the physical niceness a notebook is just another thing to carry. And I can type a lot faster than I write!

I will say the iPad Pro and pencil is a very acceptable compromise. That free expression is possible with the pencil but all the other digital advances are there.

So my Midori tends to stay home and be used when the mood strikes, but it’s not key to my workflow.

@Davey13 - thanks for your kind words. The truck is a late model series 3 from 1980 - but basically 1950s technology! I’ll post another pic soon.
