When I bought my Filson 256 brand new, one of the handles was distinctively different that the other one. The leather felt very thin and soft, and also it was already very dry. I was surprised Filson allowed it to pass through quality control. Has this happened to anyone else?

Never heard of it or seen it with any of the Filson leather, it has always been uniform. If you are not happy with it I would certainly call Filson and see about exchanging it. The dye on all of my cases and bags straps is even and has always been on every one I've seen.

Lol..it was an adventure getting it though, an expensive one... I looked everywhere, called Filson support almost every few days for a month to try and locate one, and they said it would be repeated in June, then they changed their tune and said it would not be repeated and I would be lucky if I got a purchased return. Eventually I found one in Europe at quite a monstrous price and they wouldn't ship to me..so I had to set up a forwarding address!! Ended up paying a massive UPS brokerage fee for it, because they wouldn't not include the invoice..it was plastered all over the box! Received it finally after paying even more to the forwarders for their handling and shipping! All in all, the bag must be seen in person, the leather flap is so soft, but really thick, looks and feels good enough to eat!

Spray scotchgard or similar on the cloth, helps keep it water repellant. Filson recommends it for their dry finish tin cloth products. I know the twill is oil finish but it's not in the same league as their oil finish coats. Little protector helps.

The Filson Oil Finish wax also works well on the bags...I apply it to the areas that get the most beat up (edges and bottom)...it does a nice job of preventing fraying and general wear...also creates a pretty cool patina.

That's a hell of an effort right there. I had no idea the Filson-Sebago bag of all things was so scarce. Everything else from that collection seems to be in pretty good stock still.

i just recieved my 256 from glensoutdoors. its def a bit smaller than I thought, but I think the size will work since I am not lugging a laptop to work and back... I was hoping it would be big enough to hold a change of clothes to but i think the dimensions are smaller than filson actually has listed at. The depth is actually 3" not 4" as filson.com shows.

One question... does it look slightly discolored even new? I see some white sort of discoloration across parts of the bag... pretty certain its the waxed cotton though.

Yes! I recieved my package today too, a brown #220 small duffle.

Mine is smaller than expected too but we haven't packed anything yet.
I didn't realize how broken in my #258 really was! The leather on a new bag is stiff!

Also, Spee Dee Delivery delivered with no issues in case anyone in the Midwest qualifed for $1 2-day shipping. Reviews of their service made me a little worried but they delivered on time in good shape with updates.

Looks like three of us just got our bags!! I just got my Sportsman (266) and it is the perfect size! Used randomkoreandude as a proxy, and it came up to $250 all told. And I didn't get dinged with duties or GST either! Will post some pics later.
