I have to agree w/ you. EG’s treatment of Black Calf is impressive. I never thought I would own a Dover in Black Calf but ?

Besides, Europeans consider only black dress shoes to be appropriate footwear with a business suit.

Bought the Dover first! DOAK though.

The black cap toe is such a staple, but I never really bought one - always went wing tip (AE). But seeing the Chelsea for the first time a few months ago, it was hard not to be impressed.

Polishing yesterday, the black calf uppers are simply impeccable. I found myself thinking, the combination of quality hides and hand clicking really pay off in the final product.

I recently purchased a pair of Chelsea in Nightshade. I need to prep them before wearing. Looking to use Saphir cream and polish. I see Saphir makes a “plum” (or “prune”) cream. Should I use that, or burgundy? I can’t find the Saphir wax in plum—do they make the wax in that color?

I feel with a shade that is that deep/rich and dark you don't really have to worry about exact color matches. I'd almost suggest taking a somewhat different color as well just to give it some depth as well (I'd add some navy into the mix after using a red base). I think any of the reds should work (hermes, bordeaux/burdgundy); mahogany may be a little too off color but you'd probably be fine anyway.
