No C&J do not reach EG's build quality. I have many shoes from both makers and admire and respect both. However EG have a much high sole stich count per inch which makes the shoes more flexible and more comfortable, they are "bed lasted" which C&J are not, and that makes for a much more comfortable and supportive fit on the foot and the leathers from EG are higher quality ( much tighter grain on their calf skins even than Handgrade). EG shell cordovan is heavier or thicker but I don't know why as both source shell from Horween. However, C&J shell shoes/boots are wonderful too. EG uses better quality insoles than C&J too and linings too. I could go on.Wow, great post - I'm also considering Crockett and Jones cordovan loafers - does C&J reach ED levels of finish / construction? I think C&J cordovan would also be close to the price of EG calf
overall just trying to reach the best "fit" and value for my money here for a robust longlasting shoe
Nonetheless, C&J make very good shoes.
