Wow, great post - I'm also considering Crockett and Jones cordovan loafers - does C&J reach ED levels of finish / construction? I think C&J cordovan would also be close to the price of EG calf

overall just trying to reach the best "fit" and value for my money here for a robust longlasting shoe :)
No C&J do not reach EG's build quality. I have many shoes from both makers and admire and respect both. However EG have a much high sole stich count per inch which makes the shoes more flexible and more comfortable, they are "bed lasted" which C&J are not, and that makes for a much more comfortable and supportive fit on the foot and the leathers from EG are higher quality ( much tighter grain on their calf skins even than Handgrade). EG shell cordovan is heavier or thicker but I don't know why as both source shell from Horween. However, C&J shell shoes/boots are wonderful too. EG uses better quality insoles than C&J too and linings too. I could go on.

Nonetheless, C&J make very good shoes.

Speaking of Crockett/Jones comparison, can anyone speak to a comparable fit with Edward Green that would compare to the 363 and grade last?

Mate these are incredible
Thank you very much! Thinking about it, it's the pair of shoes I've had the most compliments on by far.

I was once riding on the underground, sitting down, and there was a group of guys drinking beer in the middle of the carriage right in front of me. The guy in front of me, visibly drunk, looked down while sipping his beer. At that point the conversation went something like this:

- Nice shoes, mate!
- Thank you very much!
- What brand are they?
- Edward Green.
- How much do they cost?
- A thousand pounds.
- A THOUSAND POUNDS for these!?!? I have exactly the same from Marks & Spencer for less than £100!
- (in my mind) Yeah, right... surely, exactly the same. 😂

Man… I get these compliments from randos as well except I go “yeah like $200 from meermin, they’re alright” followed by “$200!????? You’re crazy!”
I’ve stopped telling cost of anything to anyone, can’t imagine peoples reactions to more expensive items 😂😂

The guy was loud and annoying, I wanted to make him re-think his life choices. :D

It's different at work though, if anyone asks - I'm wearing Loakes. :D

I do the same, except I use different brands. I typically say they (whatever shoe it is) are modified Florsheims or Bostonians. If I want to impress, I say AE. As soon as I throw out the AE, there's a raised eyebrow (indicating wonder) or a "wow, big spender" comment.

Outside of the verbal exchange, this reads like the scene of the Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix.
