Perhaps its odd in the light of this conversation but I find the 606 last to be shorter than all other EG lasts, and lower on the instep too. Its my least comfortable EG last ( apart from the 808). About fifteen years ago I had a chat with Ray who worked at the London shop and he confirmed then that they had a lot of feedback saying that the 606 last is short. It goes to show that not all lasts, even within one shoe maker, suit all feet I guess.
Thinking out loud here but could that be relative to the width of one's foot? If you have wider feet, you'd have less usable space in the front of the last as it tapers to the toe. Alternatively, someone with narrow but longer feet would be able to sit further up in the toebox without any restrictions.Definitely interesting as I find it longer even visually (even if it is an optical illusion). I wonder if it feels shorter because the chisel. So not necessarily shorter, but more narrow thus giving the impression of an impediment.
