Are these odd trousers? Can they work with odd jackets?

There is much information about what makes an odd jacket vs orphaned suit jacket. E.g. coarser fabric, contrasting buttons, patch pockets, patterns, etc. But I still don't understand how to tell the difference between orphaned suit trousers and odd trousers.
I got carried away in a sale and bought these two pairs of trousers. A gray flannel like material and the other is dark brown with a soft sheen.

Are these orphaned suit trousers or are they good to use as odd trousers?

I own cream, tan and navy chino cotton blazers. I have a grey&burgundy&navy pattern odd jacket that I think will go with the grey trousers but the brown trousers have a dressier texture so I am not sure what to pair them with.

They are both regular fit and have straight leg and wide opening(8.5inch gray(32W) and 8.75inch brown(30W). My feet are about only 10 to 11inches long with shoes on, so maybe these trousers are too wide?

They both need shortening and I am not set up to take photos with them on but would appreciate some general advice on whether they are in theory good trousers in style and fabric to wear with odd jackets.

Thanks

In my experience it's unusual to find orphaned suit trousers on the preowned market because trousers generally wear out long before the jackets. It's possible to find 'orphaned' new suit trousers if the jacket and trousers were sold as separates. There aren't any styling cues to distinguish a pair of odd trousers from suit trousers; it'd be all about the fabric. The grey trousers are fine. From your description of the brown trousers, I personally find very smooth/slick trouser fabrics like wool gabardines harder to wear as odd trousers but this is subjective.

Those hem openings aren't too wide IMO - a very classic width. If they otherwise fit well, it isn't difficult for a tailor to narrow the leg. Just don't make them too slim/skinny.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
