Drunk Girl Meets Suede Chukka

So after a lovely Thanksgiving holiday I was out at a bar on Saturday night for a few drinks. In the middle of the evening there was a very, VERY drunk girl at the bar. Long story short, she ended up throwing up all over the place and had to be escorted out. My friends and I had a laugh and resumed our scheduled activities.

When I got home later that evening I found that some of the girls drinks from (ahem) earlier that night had ended up on my suede chukkas. Naturally I went into cleaning mode and gave them a good damp wipe down and a thorough horsehair brushing. I let them dry throughout the day and last night they were looking pretty good.

This morning, however, there are clearly some spots where the nap is discolored. When I rub the suede in the other direction it looks good as new for a moment, but then quickly goes back to being worn-out looking.

Now these are chukkas that I intend to wear casually and scuff up, etc over time. However, since this occurred on roughly my 10th time wearing them, I'd like to see if there is anything that can be done at this juncture to get rid of some of the discoloration. I suppose I'll have to deal if the answer is I'm a day late and a dollar short, but I figured I'd reach out to the great minds of SF. Thanks in advance, gents!

I second this. I've messed up three pairs of suede and light coloured leather shoes before I learned the lesson that you should stick to beaters when going out for drinks (at least if the bar might be the least bit dive-y).

You really did get nothing out of the situation. Oh well.
Hmm, try this maybe?

Sounds like desperate times call for desperate measures. I have never had the balls to do this, but it may do the trick.

Whoa that's ballsy for sure. I was hesitant enough to take a damp cloth to them, dunno if I'm up for running water...

Yeah I've never been one to coddle my shoes. I believe that if I buy them I might as well wear them; in the rain, to bars, etc. Plus I bought them knowing they were going to be casual. Just not "puke-on" casual...

Yeah, again, I agree, but I think of them as casual. They are snuff so it's not like they are a tan that is easily scuffed. The color actually looks like it will lend itself well to some aging and beating up. All that said, it adds insult to injury that I wore my duck boots around casually that whole day and then put the chukkas on last second because I was wearing a SC.

Oh I agree about not coddling, but if I know I'm going to a "beer on the floor, potential for vomiting girl" type of place, I pull out the beater calf shoes, not the nice suede ones.

nevertheless, best of luck getting them clean

+1 to that. I have a set of three pairs of bar shoes that I rotate. Hell, I even have beater outfits for when I go out. The last thing I want is for one of my favorite shirts / pants to reek of smoke and vom.

Yeah. Well this bar was not supposed to be vomitorium, hence me wearing a SC. I think someone might have just gotten a little too much "holiday spirit." The whole ordeal caused quite the scene and forced a lot of people to eventually leave (myself included). "College bars" and the like are reserved for my stable of beaters but I didn't think I needed to wear crap shoes to a rather upscale, private bar.

Great story about John Wayne from David Niven who he saw walking into a Hotel.

Wayne - "Hello young man, I liked your recent film &c., you're going to be pretty big. One thing, don't wear suede shoes again."
Niven - "Why's that?"
Wayne - "Because you'll be pissing in the toilet and someone will swing round and say "Hey, are you David Niven?" and piss all over them"

Often chuckle to myself about that one when I wear suede to bars.

No affiliation and am not a shill but Kirby Allison (The Hanger Project) has a miniphoto essay on cleaning and refreshing suede shoes on his blog and is currently offering a sueded care kit (as well as all of the Safir products/suede brush etc. individually at his site.) Might be worth checking out.
