I have no dog in this fight, well actually I have no problem with DBs. But I've read your arguments and find them a little puzzling.

It's ok if you don't like DBs. Just leave it at that. First you say they are dated. That would imply that they might draw attention because the wearer was so obviously not with the times. Now you say they won't draw any attention because they are so average, so "ho hum".

There never was such a time. DBSC's are as old as the hills (at least as far back as the turn of the last century) Also, Bowtielover is a styleless goof. Remember that, and all will be clear.

The patch pockets are a nice touch, yachtie. Is the last one a 4x1 or 4x2 worn Kent style?

I've had a DB SC in my closet forever I was given, I tried it on the other day while clearing stuff out and found it fit me pretty well so I wore it to an event recently. The added warmth was nice as it was cold out (and living in Miami I don't have an overcoat anymore) and I found not having to think about buttoning/unbuttoning the jacket was handy. Probably not the most youthful or modern look but c'est la vie. I don't know if I'd buy a SC or blazer in DB but my the next time I consider overcoats I think I'll go DB.
