Adidas vs Thom Browne: Who owns the stripe?

Seems like kind of a stretch that Adidas owns stripes on activewear, but I bet they have very highly paid attorneys so it may not matter!

Honestly, it’s a shame that both of these brands aren’t working together. Thom is a known quantity and well established. I bet their collab merch would be fantastic.

It would also be a nice way to cleanse the palate after their last guy proclaimed his love for Hitler in every possible media venue.

I found this summary of a research paper interesting - confirms much of what gets discussed on this thread including the importance but fragility of traditional skills. The one thing that stood out was the finding that:

“garments “Made in Ireland” were more likely to be sold with a discount, implying their price competition with foreign-made imports might not be entirely avoidable despite all the efforts from targeting the niche markets to differentiating product assortments”

On the other side of things, in today's BoF daily briefs:

Stitch Fix founder Katrina Lake said she would return to the CEO role and announced layoffs amid slumping sales.

Everlane said it would lay off 17 percent of its corporate employees. Its CEO cited “difficult times for venture-backed companies.”

Yes it is. Clothes in a box doesn't really work. It's good for customers new to clothes that don't really know what they are doing and lack the time to figure it out, but even still you need a competent stylist to help. I think a better business model would be having sets already picked out and a stylist there to help. But the auto shipping of product every month gets old quick. I had a neighbor (in tech) who didn't know what to wear with what and turned to Stitch Fix (this was 6 years ago). At first, it was amazing for him and really worked. But it also depended on a good human stylist helping. But once he started to understand clothes, the set boxes were not helpful at all, or had repeats of styles, and he just needed the ability to buy clothes like any other website. They had acquired him as a customer but couldn't offer a second level of service that would keep him in the SF ecosystem.
