Almost certainly alligator. Crocodile will have a 'pore' on the edge of the tile.

In my opinion, all the Montblanc Star Legacy are with real alligator straps.

Edit; apparently they offer embossed also: https://www.montblanc.com/en-nl/wrist-watch_cod19971654706565981.html https://www.montblanc.com/en-nl/wrist-watch_cod45666037505093653.html
So yours might be also.

After a lot of investigating I have come to the conclusion that it is embossed. I see a lot of descriptions that say alligator leather which I think is a sneaky way to say embossed. Authentic straps usually state so on the strap. Whatever it is a moot point since I have a large wrist and the strap is too short. I replaced it with a cognac brown authentic extra long crocodile strap. The original is going on eBay as genuine Montblanc "alligator leather strap" :sly:

Would anyone know what kind of leather this is (on a vintage jacket)?

i am also interested to discover what it is, but i don't think it's carpincho, because

1) carpincho has a suede feel.
2) carpincho has many hair pores in one spot, as your jacket more like a feather pore in my eye.

3) i see and handle some carpincho jackets made by hettabretz, they all have many scars just like the pic shows above, not so perfect as yours.

by the way, i see your jacket in another thread, so i know the jacket is seraphin

i saw twice before that seraphin use imitate carpincho ( second tag says shearling that be covered) , you can check the difference.
