Would you generally recommend taking the same size in all of those lasts?

From my experience, I ordered all in same size. 55 is the most comfortable, 4811 a little bit tight in width and NW might need to be one width up. All are in 9.5e with the same socks, I'm 10E Brannock.

Length wise I take the same size in the 55, 4811, and 38 Swing...

Because the ball of my foot is wide but not the heel, and given the unique pattern of the 38 Swing, I size down one width from 11E to 11D when going from the 55 to the 38 Swing...

Those of you that have experience with both the 55 and 4811 last...Have you ever sized down one width on the 55 from 4811? In my case, they do feel roughly one width apart between the two, with the same length and width build.

The 55 is narrower than the 4811. It may not feel that way to YOUR feet.

I have both lasts in the same size/width (12.5D) and additionally a 55 last SD in 12.5C. Around the instep and heel, The C width on the 55 last gives me a similar fit to the D width 4811 last. OTOH, the 55 toe has more taper and can feel narrower, especially if you sized slightly short (like I did).
Next pair for me will be either 13C on #4811 or 13B on #55 (and possibly #38). Interestingly, 13C is exactly my Brannock size, so 4811 runs TTS for me.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
