I have been a long time fan of high quality dry goods made right here in the USA. My favorite part of any outfit is my shoes. I truly feel that you can learn a lot about a man just by what he has on his feet. That being said, I have always been a huge fan of handmade, high quality boots! A few years back I sought out a pair of RRL Bowery Boots. I could not believe the craftsmanship on these boots. The salesman said that they were made right here in Los Angeles by a boot maker by the name of Julian Imrie. I had to find this guy! I could not believe what I was wearing on my feet! Not only were they the most comfortable boot I had ever owned, but the quality was unsurpassed! I knew I would end up willing these boots to my children(even though I don't have any yet). Well, it took about 2 weeks for me to find Julian and set up an appointment. That was 2 years ago. I now have an entire collection of his boots and the hardest thing for me is figuring out which ones to wear! They are all so amazing! You will not find boots like this made anywhere in department stores! He carefully selects who he wants to work with as to not saturate his name and run the risk of lowering his quality! I must say that if you are in the market for an amazing pair of boots, look no further than Julian Boots! You cannot go wrong with them! They are absolutely amazing! Just check out my pics and see for yourself!

@misterjuiceman...yes..He did a very small size run for barney's and it was about time you were able to purchase a high quality, made in America boot from the store. With that said, Barney's is not really considered a department store. I mean, come on man, there's only 2 or 3 of them right? I'm talking Macy's, Nordstrom, etc. We all know that Barney's is famous for featuring up and coming designers, but a department store they are not!

There's two or three Barneys in Manhattan alone if you count Barney's Co-Op. It's definitely a department store, but to be fair, I don't think Julian is stocked outside of the flagship stores. At the time they had Viberg, too, so definitely an outlier.

@paleolithic...Go on Julianboots.net. Pick what styles of boot you like and contact them. They will get right back to you and from there you will be able to design your boot. You can pick style, leather, sole, etc. It takes about 3-6 weeks for the boots to be made. Really worth the time and money. Believe me! You will want to sleep in these boots they are so comfortable!

@misterjuiceman....I'm not including Co-Ops. They aren't really considered Barney's to me. But yes...Julian Boots were only stocked in New York and Los Angeles flagship stores.

Have you handled anything from other workboot makers that you could compare these to? Also, do you know for sure that these are made in the USA? I've heard from a few people that they're made in Mexico: http://supertalk.superfuture.com/in...ell-cordovan-group-order/page-26#entry2549291, but not too many folks seem to own these.

Unsurprisingly, given Japan's ongoing love-affair with American workwear, there are probably more quality workboot makers in Japan these days. Some of them are very small. I have a nice pair from Slow Wear Lion in Aoyama that I got on sale recently, but they are just one of many including the excellent Lone Wolf (who also make for Sugarcane).

Definitely some great stuff coming out of Japan. Viberg, White's, Nick's and Wesco seem to all have a decent market there as well. The Real McCoy's, Flat Head, Moto Leather & Silver, and White Kloud, to name a few, are also making some very nice footwear. I've handled The Real McCoy's N-1 shoe, and I thought it was extremely nice.

Moto make lovely stuff. A lot is aimed at the biker / vintage car community here - so a good place to see most of this is a magazine like Lightning - their annual Boots Bible issue is exactly what it says on the tin...
