That's a bit of a broken record, man... :dozingoff:

Wtf. How often do I even post here?

Nonetheless, apologies for speaking out of turn and from actual experience. But as an olive branch, I am happy to confess that chips from Hay appear to stay on the shoulder just as well as ones you don't have to assemble yourself.

Nice edit save, btw.

What do you guys think about the Prouve Standard chair by Vitra

https://www.vitra.com/en-us/product/standard

Vs the knock offs like from France and Sons?

https://www.franceandson.com/produc...SeT82PoT1EYdJe3qY1wmcZ5h4kc07MhhoCSlwQAvD_BwE

As far as I can tell the biggest difference is in the weight. The Vitra feels much more sturdy and heavy. The Vitra also comes with plastic or felt glides.
I’m trying to convince myself that the Vitra version is worth the $$$. :decisions:

Cannot speak to the knock-off, but everything we have from Vitra is fantastic. Quality control far exceeds the high-end Italian makers, which is astonishingly hit-or-miss.

Best test is feel. If the Vitra feels that much sturdier to you, then to me, it's a no brainer.

I found them very comfortable, I also found the plastic seat version to be equally good.

They are on the heavy side, likely due to the back legs.

Are you actually surprised that Italian QC is hit-or-miss? It seems to me among the most expected things in the world.

Yeah the Vitra version is better but I’m hesitant to pay so much for it. I’ve about 6 months before the dining table is ready so I’m waiting to see if I can get lucky and these versions show up at auction.

The Vitra licensed version is still super cheap compared to the originals. I saw this set of 4 sell for almost $27k at auction.

I’m considering the plastic version but I think the color of the plywood is better.

He's not wrong though. So what's the problem? Our wishbone chairs are excellent on all counts. Wish we could have afforded more of them. And we were also considering the Hay chairs until we actually got to try some... We ended up with some early Aalto designs (Chair 69) from Artek in bent birch in a floor sale. Very solid and almost 90 years after they were designed, they still look contemporary. Chair 66 is most people's preference - the stackable Domus (AKA "Finn") Chair - not an Aalto design - also from Artek, is also excellent:

I'm I love with these Kai Kristiensen bedside tables:

Pretty pricey though and they seem to be exclusive to Great Dane in Australia. I love the whole line.
