Cashmere Sweater Hierarchy

On a recent trip to Milan, I bought two sweaters from Colombo and need to share that I have faced some issues with their construction. One of them I noticed while still being in Milan so I returned it (forgot to take a pic)and am currently waiting for the exchange. On the roll neck there was a little knot coming out after one wear which looked like the part where to ends of different rolls of yarn were connected as well as one piece of yarn just sticking out.

Today (and with a picture below) I noticed a different issue on the second sweater after taking tit off today (again after one single wear). There is a small loop coming out where the collar and body are linked. I will probably need to text the team at the store which, honestly ,is annoying on both sides. I'm normally a big fan of them but this is not what I expect. This is luxury after all.

Yes, noblesse oblige, at such a price point, luxury, you have to warrant perfection.

The easiest way is Made in Scotland versus Made in Italy.

I would agree, generally, except that the current production is also (entirely or partly) made in Scotland, but it won't be difficult to detect it (different label).

sometimes latch hook needles can split yarn which is how you get those little errant loops in machine knitting . it's not hard to back out the work to fix those things .

to me the knot is the worse sin as you're paying for yarn processing and knitting in a garment and both are opportunities to qc that very basic aspect

You should return it definitely. It is bought from the shop? or online/warehouse? Probably from shop, if you are still there, go in person because you probably remove all the labels since you wore it once

Does anyone know who makes Harrods own brand cashmere ? It looks nice online and the description says "Our cashmere is sourced directly from inner Mongolia through B-Corp-certified suppliers, ensuring elite quality. The luscious wool then visits an esteemed mill in Hawick, Scotland to be transformed into unforgettable knitwear staples." I have emailed them to them who is the producer and they said they would get back to me but that haven't bothered

I bought it in store and am not in Milan anymore.

Heading home after work, the métro is crowded and overheated. Why not drape the knit over your shoulders to create visual interest?

Does Hermes continue to make some of their sweaters in Scotland? Or is it only vintage Hermes that were made in Scotland? If they do, do we know who the manufacturer is?

Does Hermes continue to make some of their sweaters in Scotland? Or is it only vintage Hermes that were made in Scotland? If they do, do we know who the manufacturer is?

AFAICT all the Hermes cashmere is now made in Italy. They used different manufacturers during the time period for made in scotland. Three names that have been discussed are Barrie, Ballantyne, and John Laing.

Note though that items made under their own label i.e. Barrie's may not be as good as those made for Hermes due to the requirements. But if you find a Hermes made in scotland sweater that's in good condition, it'll probably be great construction.

No problem. It is from Blue Beach Denim, a specialist independent retailer in Taiwan. This particular colour / yarn is a small quantity custom order made for them by Inis Meain, so not one that will be sold in other Inis Meain stockists. They do however deliver worldwide.

Pro: I got a beautiful black cashmere turtleneck from William Lockie
Con: I didn't put 2 and 2 together that a turleneck on a 17" neck with an athletic frame makes me look like a football linebacker with an even thicker neck than I already had

Oh well, can't always dress for your frame. Still love the sweater, gonna keep it regardless
