For fine gauge v neck jumpers, can anyone comment on the differences and quality among LP, BC, Hermes and Kiton? TIA

My newest purchase, a 6ply thick cashmere jumper from Mauro Ottaviani. The touch is nice and consistent, not too soft. The knit is not very tight though.

Stunning color, Dorian. I hope the fit is just as beautiful. It reminds me of Gabriela Hearst's "Lawrence" cashmere jumpers, which are apparently all hand knit in Argentina.

Loro Piana also just launched their Cocooning Collection, of which this jumper is similar to yours in ply :

Price is steep at 2,500 USD.

between LP and BC, newer BC isn't as good as the old ones, they pill a bit more and the cashmere is a lot softer now than on older models that pilled less and maintained a slightly more coarse hand, hope that helps

side note, Hermes is contract manufactured

I have never been a fan of recent and current BC offerings, especially after I learnt recently that they use cariaggi yarns.

Hermès made-in-UK (current offerings) knitwear are from Johnston's, who also make their blankets and scarfs

Hermès made-in-Italy knitwear are from Umbria Verde, although not exclusively.

I absolutely adored this design from H, but had sticker shock at 4,000 USD. 2-ply, gauge 3 made in Italy.

where did you get it from ? googled it, and the algorithm didn't yield any useful results, especially since Ottaviani doesn't have e-commerce

can you elaborate a bit on Cariaggi's yarns ? I've no reference point for the mill - except for Cucinelli's minority stake acquisition in it and that he's apparently worked with them since day one

I hate to derail the topic, but what is the consensus on a 100% silk sweater? In other words, where to buy a good one, and whether it's a good alternative to other materials? Thanks.

I saw some in the current Tom Ford collection. These are at Mr Porter.

If it's helpful Luca Faloni also use Cariaggi's prestige yarns for their cashmere (which I have tried on but wan't suitable size wise but seemed nice ) their jumpers are around £260 so a fraction of the price

Considering to give Luca Faloni a try. Why didn't the garment fit? Have they odd sizes?

Nope ! the problem is me I'm an odd size! I'm short (5'7) but stocky so the standard italian fit can be a little tricky for me, when I tried one of their jumpers in one of their London stores I was in a rush so couldn't try another, the colour (nocciolo brown ) was lovely, I have a LF linen shirt and Navy long sleeve polo and really like both so would be happy to recommend

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
