It’s huge. A proper full-size SUV, this Navigator is but a concept, previewing a 2017 production car that, sadly, won’t come with those gullwing doors. Sad face.

Without the gullwings it looks weirdly like a long wheelbase Range Rover. Coincidence?

Ford and RR have had very similar styling cues for years now. The new Explorer front end is hard to tell from the Landie.

They already said it the production version won't get gullwing doors. It was mostly for dramatic effect at the show and to more easily display the interior. Gullwing doors at least in the past weren't very good in rain. I had read years ago an issue with gullwing doors was that after driving in rain when you open the doors water pours in on people. It doesn't seem very appealing to buy an SUV and do a "Rain water challenge" each time you open the doors after driving in bad weather. Most exotics with gullwing doors are probably only driven in sunny weather.

The other issue with gullwing doors is that if you were ever in a rollover crash you'd be feeling mighty dumb sitting upside down in your fancy car without a way to get out. I heard that the SLS was fitted with explosive charges in the roof to deal with this scenario. I don't know if the classic cars with gullwing or scissor doors ever had a safety measure for this

I know someone with a SLS, I shall ask him if there's a button for blowing the doors off but I'd be surprised!

Might be easier to put in a heavy peened hammer for the windscreen somewhere. But I definitely have to ask now.
