It frees customers from having to worry about replacing the batteries which is a common concern I hear.
The battery degradation issue seems not to be materializing for most people because they charge at home at lower voltages. Our previous i3 had the smaller battery, so we charged it to full 4-5 times weekly (and 7-8 times weekly once I started commuting to the East Bay). The range was essentially undiminished after 7+ years.

The biggest threat to EVs seems to be any sort of collision once they’re a few years old because the repair costs soon outstrip the value of the cars. But this may be generic to all cars these days…

I think most Americans will want an on demand car vs. uber like model mostly because of how dirty some cheap ubers are you get in. I think we may end up EV for the next car and rent an ICE for longer trips. The only time I had a rental go wrong was when we got one for a trip to visit her parents in Louisiana and the rental started shocking us when we would touch certain things in the car. Weirdest experience and I forget the model...

Range Rover ads are targeting my wife and she sent me a pic of a blue one that closely matches her BMW with a $120K price tag. No thanks.

CAAS (car as a service) solves a problem which doesn't exist for most people. Taxis and transit already exist. Like all of the other recurring-revenue scams (I'm looking at you, Adobe), it would exist primarily to extract as much money from people as possible.

I prefer to think of it as better signing pricing and a customer's willingness to pay.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
