I do this in Canada; as a registered business I'm required to charge sales tax. Ebay has a tax table that charges the right rate for each province. You just select to apply it. The customers pay it, and it appears as another line entry in the paypal statement. At the end of the year I add it up and send a cheque off to the government.

It does make some customers upset though, in Canada; any sale except by charitable organizations must collect tax...but people are used to buying used items personally or through charity thrifts, so sometimes they get upset.

It might make it more difficult for those selling under the table to hide though; if you collect money for the government, they're going to ensure they investigate who's selling to get it.

Welp im out. No way am i collecting taxes for states i dont live in. ******* scotus.

I really dont think its going to be a big deal, and ebay knows that if the laws go though (state by state) they are going to have to automate the process (they already offer the option to charge tax per state you live in) if you want to and as @div25sec9 said it just goes on the tables you already use to calculate tax. Sucks for people buying stuff and sucks more for people selling NEW items trying to compete with Amazong where you already have to pay tax, but dont see it being a big deal for pre-owned clothing sales, etc. Got to just see how it plays out but its not like you have to start collecting it tomorrow unless you live in states that implement a new law.

even when i lived in a sales tax state i never showed a sales tax, i'd back it out of the gross price and remit that which is perfectly fine... back then (and now) i don't really like the idea of geographic price discrimination which is essentially what the quilt of state taxes represents.

those states can move quick too. once scotus allowed gambling delaware was on that **** like 4 days later lol.

Except that I still have to report sales tax to my state. It’s enough of a hassle to do it for CO without having other states to pay off. If most states’ laws are similar to ND and the threshold is $100k in sales, it won’t impact most of us.

Here's one for the list:

preeva

Wanted to return because the shirt fit a "but large", so I just took the return as it's not worth fighting anymore. They decided that they didn't want to pay the return shipping, so they called eBay; convinced them to change the case to "Not as described"...now I have to pay for shipping both ways as well.

Bought a sweater back in FEBRUARY. It was delivered, never heard from her, all good...

... not so fast, my friend, she just opened a PayPal dispute for Unauthorized Transaction, so now that $ is on hold until PayPal "figures this out" with her bank.

As long as tracking shows delivered, and you delivered to the address provided at checkout, PayPal should remove the hold on the payment. Just call them and point that out. I have a case that still shows as active on PayPal, but they released the funds back to me a few weeks ago.

Just had someone claim it's a fake, anyone want to weigh in, it's my listing.

Edit- whether he's right or wrong on this one, the guy seems to buy a fair share of "fakes" on ebay then leaves negative feedback about it. This mega-douche with this as his ebay icon is now on my blocked list. nhincailon

^^^ I end them starting 7pm est. From what I have read 7-8pm Sunday night est is the peak volume of hits on the site
As a buyer on eBay I like them to end on Friday night so I can collect over the weekend , that's for items that are collect only .
As far as giving eBay a look in I'll not log in on a weekend .
