One thing good to mention about the GSP (which I will never use) is that all you need to do is get it to Kentucky safely. Once it's there, any missing or damaged international shipments are covered by ebay. This makes it a great option for the beginner or small time seller.

That’s why it appealed to me (though I wasn’t sure about all of that until now).

I think I may also have warm fuzzy feelings because it’s all been to Japan. Not to stereotype, but so far, those guys were all polite and responsive and knew how to read measurements. America — catch up!

Let's say I'm looking to spend $20-25 on a Robert Talbott tie. If I go with the shipper who uses First Class?

Some other drawbacks other than cost:

• You get a tracking number to follow the item to KY, no tracking while it's in KY for two or three business days and a final tracking number only accessible by desktop and only after it clears customs. Once the item arrives in KY, it shows as 'Delivered' on eBay, despite being a good week away from arriving up here.
• Shipping takes almost twice as long if using GSP.
• The KY facility will often undo all of your careful packaging and throw the item loose into a poly pouch to cut down on their costs with zero regard for the increased risk of damage.

As a buyer, I'll pretty much always avoid GSP listings unless I absolutely need to have the item.

As a Canadian shopper my frustration with GSP comes when I'm getting charged customs fees on MiUSA or otherwise NAFTA/CETA exempt items - I'm 90% sure eBay just pockets that ****. Complaining to eBay about this is a fools errand (I've tried).

Another downside I learned to GSP this past week is that it does not allow the seller to bundle shipping, or so I was told by this particular seller.
