Where did he threaten negative feedback?
Assuming the seller is legit, how can a seller prevent fraud like this? It seems pretty easy for any eBayer to do this switch and get away with it.
If one retook photos and uploaded it and chose to use the new one as the "cover" photo, ebay doesn't update the listing??
Quote: See below. It is a federal offense to commit mail fraud. That is why it is not widespread and most people on ebay just want the item they bought in the condition it was described.
Quote: As a side note, it changed about 1.5/2 years ago that eBay is not responsible for items received back in different condition and you will loose the appeal. It was a very hush hush thing they changed in fine print. The explanation I got was to speak with the police, mail fraud, federal offense, forward them a copy of the police report etc and go from there but they were loosing too much money when sellers would open cases especially on higher value stuff (our used clothing is cheap, think electronics)
This is not to say that if you are a good long time seller ebay wont help you out and still cover you but the policy did change

Guess it wasn't directly enough for eBay. Would imagine it's safe to assume that someone who's calling me a fraud, saying I put on a label myself while using fake photos, isn't going to be leaving positive feedback.
Quote: This is only my guess... but if they live in the US, report them to the US agency and if they/you live in Canada you can report it to that agency as well.
This is really not a common thing. Having sold 1000's of items (Spoo, Wes, and others selling 1000's and 1000's more as well). It's not like this is happen all the time or even close to a small percentage of the time. I'm trying to think if I have ever, maybe once years ago had this happen so your talking 0.0001% or something like that.
As a follow up to this issue, I remembered it was shipped through GSP. Is it possible that they switched packages/made a mistake and sent them the wrong item? I know this is a long shot, but curious if it's happened to anyone in the past.
Have them send you a picture of the item they recieved

I think the thing that keeps this somewhat down is the amount of info eBay has on buyers when coupled with PayPal. If you pull a dick move and are reported, they get wise and shut you down even if you try to reup. They will track you by bank accounts, and other forms of ID. I think you could perpetually get away with minor offenses with no consequences though. This is my experience with the non-criminal offenses buyers try on me every week.Any advice on this? Otherwise it would be quite widespread and problematic.
That's a great record. In about 4500 transactions, I've only had 3 significantly altered/damaged items come back to me, and I am pretty sure I've bitched about all 3 here.exactly 4 times in 25,000 transactions. and i remember all of those bitches names and what the items were.
