Business Casual?

I am just curious if this is business casual in your opinion. I know that denim can work, and am wondering if this does.

Forgive the background, I am very busy and it is dark outside.

sorry to say, but its a mess.

the jeans are generally somewhat "dad jean" ish and should be darker and tighter.

The jacket, while loose and having sleeves that are too long is not a complete disaster.

Then you add a tie and vest.

And then you wear what look to be hiking shoes of some sort.

its completely inconsistent.

Replace the jeans with some slim fitting chinos and some proper dress shoes, and it may be ok (although the vest then would be iffy)

or

remove the vest and tie and add a sweater under the jacket. jeans should be as described above and the shoes are still bad.

Thanks for the comments. The shoes I know aren't ideal, but I quite literally do not have any other shoes other than REAL hiking boots. Same for the jeans. I will go on a tangent and ask - where do you find dark jeans that aren't all faded and yucky?

I can't wear any slim pants whatsoever. They don't fit through my legs.

Anyway I am really asking about business casual suitability. I know the outfit isn't perfect, but I am working under very very limited resources.

It could work in certain business casual environments. Don't ask us. We don't know what your workplace is like. I can tell you that that's an ugly, ill-fitting outfit. Why not drop the jacket all together?

You don't always have to wear a tie with that jacket, small patterns like striped or checkered shirt would be quite nice then pair it with a slimmer cut wool pants.

I get the having no money part, I've been there.

The biggest problem to me is the wrinkling around the knees. Either buy a needle and thread and shorten the jeans, or just roll them up, or buy starch and iron, whatever it takes. I don't like the bunching at the ankles either, but that is so common it is less of a distraction.

If you have more time than money, visit some thrift stores, one thing they have a lot of are jeans and pants.

Buy raw denim. I bought great (the die hards over at SW&D might have other opinion) selvedge denim from Uniqlo for GBP60. If you don't have a Uniqlo nearby, there's always Levis. But be sure to ask for raw denim. And slim fitting doesn't mean too tight, just fitting your legs slimly. Right now your jeans are also crumpling below the knees because they are too long. Roll 'em up!

I think you can do better with, as suggested here, chinos or wool pants rather than jeans for your business casual look. Also, your jacket's length should be just long enough to cover your butt. And to give the illusion of height choose darker trousers.

yes I am sorry to say you not look good in that dress you have to wear checkered shirts with tie and wool pants

7 For All Mankind, True Religion, Levi's (my pick), or raw would be sources for jeans that you're asking about.

In regards to your original question, that is not business casual - that looks like business-ish but then you forgot to bring the suitpants to work that day. To me, jeans are never part of a business casual outfit. Some people may protest, but that's just my take. Unless you're the CEO or some high up executive who can call the shots, save the jeans for after-hours.
For business casual, go with a nice OCBD or dress shirt (sans-tie), a decent blazer, and some nice chinos. Or, if your work environment is even more casual, a nice polo shirt and chinos will work as well. If it's a bit more formal, you can do the first option with a tie.

it could have been worse. In my current work environment (IT/Finance), business casual interpretation includes cargo shorts, all sort of jeans, Affliction/MMA/Hawaiian shirts, hiking/hunting boots..you get the picture

Fit problems aside, wear this with full-cut light grey flannels and nicer shoes and, while not strictly business casual, it will look thousands of times better
