Seeking recommendations for brands / models of some (dark) brown derby shoes. Budget: $400ish

I like these Morjas brown grain split toe derbies but they're sold out: https://www.morjas.com/us/product/the-split-toe-derby-brown-grain/

I also like the Crockett & Jones Cornell and Sandhurst but trying not to spend $750:

Also like this ALDEN UNLINED PLAIN TOE BLUCHER - BROWN CHROMEXCEL

Willing to buy new or gently used. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Get the pembroke by C&J, their most timeless derby.

Also, C&J is way cheaper if you call one of their UK retail stores and order direct rather from the website. You'll probably save $100 USD when it's all said and done.

If price is an issue and you're not in a hurry, I'd highly recommend the Ebay route. For something as common as a brown derby, you'll come across a tremendous number of options. You can either target a higher quality shoe in your $400 price range, or a $400 shoe for lower cost. Most Ebay shoe prices are negotiable.

Just a few of examples:

Thanks! Good idea. What are the mechanics of doing that? Literally just find any UK store and call it?
