Gnatty, is that Groth Cask worth grabbing. I've been always meh on Jefferson releases but I've heard good things on that one. I waffled last week at my store at purchasing one and opted to save some Pennies for now.

I would recommend it, yes. I am also meh on Jefferson as well, but this one was screaming out to me and I thought I'd throw caution to the wind and give it a shot.. In short, it's a very good whiskey, and I'd definitely buy this one again, and likely will before it disappears from shelves..

I'm generally not a fan of wine finished bourbons (Cortis brothers just tried and ugh....) is this a non typical wine barrel finished bourbon?

Well, I must confess, this is the first I've had, believe it or not, and I enjoyed it enough to buy another.. I'd buy a glass in a bar first, check it out, and see what you think, since I think I paid around 50 bucks or so, making it a slightly painful mistake if you absolutely hate it. Somehow I don't think you will though..

Edit, I was at the liquor store last night, and I guess this one was closer to 80 bucks, so yeah, if you're unsure, definitely try it out by the shot somewhere, but I think you'll like it..

I tried Breckenridge this week and thought it was pretty good. Any else heard of this one?

Per their website, "... distilled in Breckenridge, is blended with straight Bourbon Whiskeys from Kentucky and Tennesee."

Breck didn't impress me much, but it takes something really special to impress me. Would I be able to pick it out of a lineup with EW10, ER, or BT, probably not

I can't get enough four roses picks. As of late, OE recipes have been my preference over OB. This particular one was OESK. Absolutely awesome.

While people will go apeshit over BTAC and PVW this time of year, I'm more than happy with lots of these. Just getting harder to come by.

Interesting. Single Barrel Knob Creek.

Speaking of single barrels, I would love to try a single barrel variant of OWA. It's my favorite drinking bourbon and would like to see how a single barrel would taste relative to the retail

Speaking of SB: Koval Single Barrel Rye is weird. I don't like it that much. Has a very odd sweetish note.

Edit: Smells like artificial banana and tastes a bit like it. With a lingering "chemical" sweetness.

The Koval millet whiskey is much more interesting.

Other rye suggestions? Picked up High West double rye. I confess I only enjoy it with a touch of water added. Not proud but find it too aggressive otherwise - haven't had this with other whiskeys to date.

I tend to take a first sip to taste, but most bourbons (especially all of the barrel proof ones as I'm apt to purchase) end up with a little bit of water in them from me. In my opinion opens them up and cuts the alcohol burn, which helps me taste them better
