Rye is going for 550-600 secondary now. And to be honest, it may be worth it. It is one of the finest whiskeys out there. So refined, so lush. I don't buy into all the Pappy nonsense, if I can get it at retail I will, and sometimes I trade for other stuff, sometimes I drink, but that rye is knock your socks off good.

Completely agree. VWFRR 13 year Rye is my favorite whiskey out there right now. Had my choice of one bottle from the full Van Winkle and BTAC line yesterday. I've never seen the Rye at retail so chose it without hesitation. It's been tanked for a while now, and who knows how long the current stocks will last. I'm not holding my breath that the future Buffalo Trace distillate will come close.

If only I could come across a dram of the VW 1985 15 year Rye...

Federal wine on state st is my go to. Ask for Joe, he is the man

Seconded. The stuff behind the counter is a fraction of what they have.

And of course Julio's will always have a decent selection, but unless you drop serious $$ regularly, you won't sniff the allocated stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions! Will have to check them out when I am off Island next. I ran into one of the liquor stores here that I always forget about because it is so small but to my surprise I looked up on the shelf and to my surprise they had Bookers, Bakers, Blanton's, george t. stagg, and a bunch of others that I cant remember off the top of my head.

I picked up a bottle of Elmer T Lee Sour Mash, one of the selected barrels. It's quite good for a $25 bottle. Definitely a score if you see it. Nice mashbill with the rye in it, gives it some spice. There's no age listed but it's supposed to be 8-12 years and tastes it.

I was finally able to pick up a bottle of this here in Brooklyn. Looking forward to dipping into this over the weekend.

My faves are OESV and OBSO. The K's are real spicy.

Grabbed a few things today (off of shelves)...Makers Cask Strength, OFBB '14 and a PVW 15. Planned on hitting New England today, but got stuck in traffic in BK. Glad I did.

We're dorks, and I'm cool with that.

Is the MM Cask Strength worth picking up? Didn't think much of Makers 46 but I have not had a chance to try MMCS.

Also, Michter's 10 year bourbon at $110-120 - worth the premium over regular Michters?

MMCS i've heard is so/so. The m10 is great, always a buy if I see it and I'm out of it! The 20 though is absolutely sublime. Worth every one of the 4-500 dollars they're asking on it.

hey 'mericans! question... so I can get some Stagg Jr here for about $85, around say $75 in USD, think it's worth it at that price? I've got quite a few of the basic $30-40 bourbons covered and a few higher priced ones like say Bookers, which I found really nice, hell it's relatively cheap compared to scotch but LCBO here locally is known to jack the price $20-30 and I'm swayed becuase it seems to rare to find but am I just getting gouged here or is it worth it?

The Stagg Jr is pretty salty. IMO what makes the price justifiable is the proof. If you want something from BT high proof and can't find it, here's your chance. I generally pass it up on the shelf for $50.

thanks Rob!

It sounds like the consensus is it's good juice but that price is pushing it. I think I'm going to pass on this for now and look around over the next few months or whenever I'm in NYC and see if I can find it around that $50 pricepoint or even taste it somewhere before buying

Bummed I missed out on a tasting with Julian Van Winkle as the guest earlier this month back home in NC at a bar. I was literally two blocks away at the time.

Got two bottles of GTS and a bottle of Pappy 15 this year, without any price inflation. Under $300 for all three. Gotta love small town living!

And I don't really care for the Stagg Jr. I think there are better options for the price.
