not thought of that. There will be plenty over (probably around 8" or so) but the belt is pretty thick (leather lined). Would make a great watch strap I suppose. I could send it to the guy the makes the straps from Russian Calf - maybe he could do something with it.

Actually, probably not. The lleftover belt is about 3 cm in width and about 10 inches in length.
If you cut out the parts where the thread is, it will be even smaller than 3 cm.
If you cut the 10 inches so the leather can be sewn into a square, it will look ugly with all the stitching.

If you want to make it into a watch strap, you got to remove the lining and wrap the watch around and based it on a new lining. All in all, difficult work.

Use the extra 3cm x 10 inch piece as a travel shoe horn. In a pinch, a belt is a nice shoe horn and this is just about the right size for travel.

Just been to the cobblers. Belt is pretty much in ruins. The cobbler has cut the belt down, folded it over, not finished it diagonally like the original and simply run a blade down the fold which is completely wonky.

Much chaos ensued. I was called a "pain ***********" because I wouldn't accept the work. Then was told "well what do you expect for £5?". Wouldn't give me my belt even when I offered to pay him the £5 just to take it to somewhere else to salvage it.

Picking it up at 5pm after he has "fixed it".

To anyone concerned - it was:

Just picked it up again. He's actually done a really good job this time. You'd think it was a different cobbler. Just raises the question why he didn't do it like this the first time

Will get some photos of it up tomorrow...
