So it's more tricky and debatable than I thought. Are we all agreed on this, though?
Of the socks, shoes and trousers, the socks must not have the lightest shade.

No, we do not all agree on this.

Below, is a picture from today's "A Suitable Wardrobe." The socks (grey and white houndstooth) are lighter in shade than the trousers or shoes, but I don't find the combination at all objectionable.

Cross post from the AE thread.

It looks as if the heels are falling off of one of my park avenues (as they tend to do, apparently, with that line). What are my options?

Yes, yes, and yes. Repolish with a matching polish. Look up the "Mac method" as your primer on how to polish.

I thought the mac method was only for shell.

You can either contact customer service and see what they will do for you or go to your local cobbler and have them reattach.

Apparently this is a common issue with AE. It's an easy fix for a cobbler though and much quicker than sending them back to AE.

Lighter socks looks better. The same tone is optimal, but if one has to choose lighter is better. As Will from ASW puts it it draws the eye in and it makes the combo look more "interesting". I agree with him.

It can be. Is the belt leather, exotic skin? If its leather its ok.
I was about to post again because I did some browsing here and found most people think it's all right.

Thanks for your quick reply! Much appreciated. I was indeed referring to a leather belt.
