I purchased one last year, pretty "middle of the road" in terms of quality and price but HOLY CRAP does that thing shed! I have a hardwood floor with lots of black leather/glass furniture and the shedding drives me nuts. I don't wear shoes on it and thankfully my rug is only about 5' wide so I can carry it outside and shake it clean.

Not me, after some deliberation and getting a bunch of samples. The fibers are just way too long. Reminscent of the hair on those treasure troll dolls. I ended up with a 100% wool shag rug, and I tell you, I don't know if it's the quality of the wool, but that thing sheds like crazy (and consequently a pain ********** to clean up after). Wool is suppose to be good quality from India. I have wool balls all over my hardwood floor that I have to sweep or vacuum with great frequency. I wish I just got something that was either a blend or synthetic to eliminate this shedding. It's so annoying, I'm thinking of just getting rid of my current rug and getting a different one. My advice, if buying 100% wool shag, make sure shedding is minimal or just get synthetic, you'll thank me later.

resurrecting this thread. thinking about buying a flokati for my living room. are these really a pain ********** to deal with. i can deal with a bit of shedding, but is this a persistent thing or does it taper off after a few months, once some of the material sheds away. i'm thinking about getting natural white. my living room has little foot traffic, so i'm not terribly concerned with the cleaning or maybe i should?

Drawing from the other rug thread, why not just hang it on the wall? I think it would look great.

Do you have pets? They could make the rug disgusting in short order.

Otherwise, if foot-traffic is quite low and remove outdoor shoes in your place they're a nice thing to have... I could never put one myself in my living room due to the amount of foot traffic/ food use the my place.

couple cats, so yes, that was a concern of mine. they are well trained and my GF keeps them well groomed, so i'm not terribly concerned about accidents or their shedding, unless someone tells me otherwise.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
