I didn't mean it as a way to win her friendship and influence her. I think it would help him to get over whatever the other person did to him. There's a lot of emotional catharsis when you apologize and the other person apologizes to you.

I'll be the odd man out - why forgive? If this isn't a close relative, cut the person out - your emotions will fade when you don't have to deal with them anymore, and trying to stay friends will exacerbate things. You don't forgive the rock in your shoe, you remove the damn thing.

Grow up. Some Tutsis have forgiving Hutus for murdering their entire families and friends. That's the kind of **** that would seem almost impossible to forgive, but some manage to forgive anyway. I am not telling you to become close to whoever did you wrong... but just let it go and move on. Life is too short to be holding petty grudges.
