Why must you torture me???
Why do I think there must be some Brandy shell involved here?

There is always Russell Moccasin if someone likes a lot of lacing and speedhooks. Over 100 types of leather, but no shell. Grand Slam Sheep Hunters truly are function over form.

Some mornings after bird season starts and I'm still sore and tired I understand just how K75 feels.

The new AE boots are on an unknown last, only 2 choices of leather and limited sizes. And I also am not sure about the eyelet spacing. Most of the time it doesn't bother me on AE boots but those leaving me wondering also. As mentioned going to have to wait for someone to buy them and post some decent pictures to decide. Still waiting on the chukka and also the other boot on the 5 last that Paul mentioned.

I love speed hooks and I am not afraid to admit it. I find them so much easier to use than all eyelets.

Unfortunately, I am not in on the Viberg Shell trifecta... yet. Maybe someday.
With regards to the new boots:
  • They don't come in E widths
  • They don't have a defined last
  • They have only leather soles. A minilug tap (commando like) or Danite would be better
  • This brush off looking bleached leather scares me. It looks too extreme. If it were more subtle, it would be so much better for me. The same goes for the strandmok version.
  • The eyelet spacing looks a bit off. A fifth eyelet would make them more palatable

No it doesn't, they do also... The Red\Brown of #8 or AE burgundy shell is something many look froward to developing over time. However I will admit that on shoes like my Cambridge's I prefer that they stay more black cherry, or in other terms red and black. IMO that goes better with more of my suits than brown. The old timers used to use black Kiwi on #8, it helps blend the black spots in as they age. I prefer to stay away from waxes and polishes on shell but on a few of my burgundy may play around a little with it. I already use a little black once in a great while on the Cambridge's.

I use the AE burgundy cordovan creme when I want burgundy shell to stay burgundy. It works pretty well and makes for a nicer shine than just brushing and buffing alone.

On black shell, I use the AE black cordovan creme fairly religiously. Black shell patina (grey?) isn't as attractive as the pantina on burgundy or brown. Black shell needs to stay black.

I think they both have their place. On an Indy boot I like the speed hooks but on my Lindricks I like the all eyelets, functionally I don't find any one easier or harder and wearing them my pants cover that part of the boot up anyways. It kind of comes down to how I like the boot to look in my closet when I am admiring them lol

Ryden and I don't disagree on much...speedhooks is one of them.

Thats because you don't have kids yet! You can sit peacefully in your house and take however long you like to boot on a pair of boots. Me, not so much...

What I wouldn't give to put on a pair of shoes in peace...

Lol I could see that but I find speed hooks only faster when undoing them. Lacing them seems to take just as long for me.

Maybe I will get better at it when it is essential, as of now my little guy is only two months old.

Dude, you sound way too old and way too bitter... I'm with you my friend, my poor daughter's most common childhood memory is going to be daddy chastising her over and over again for repeatedly stepping on his pretty shoes!

I'm just kidding. I let go of that years ago (but it was difficult).

EDIT...

I'm beginning to better understand the Rydenfan/tifosi dual personality!
