Please elaborate? One of my pairs of Aldens with vibram toppys ended up serving as snow boots. First experience with leather boots in snow. No exposure to road salt.

Okay. Then you may have lucked out. Generally, when my shoes get wet from snow, the salt is already on the ground and has turned that snow into a salt water mix, leading to stains.

I'd recommend using a waterproofing spray on any leather you intend to wear in snow, or at least, some sort of oil protector like Pavlov leather balm/waterproofer.

I'm designing my closet for our build.... Has anybody ever used elfa for shoes and boots? How many shoes can you generally fit on a 2' shelf?

4 pair b or d width on 24 inches with room to spare. If you can get 20 inch deep it’s much better than 16 because you can store an extra pair in back. Can post pics if you like.
