(Also posted on AAAC)

Just letting everyone know that the prices for Alden Shoes will increase on 1/26 (tomorrow).

Expect increases of $20-40 a pair. Usual reasons: inflation, weak dollar, increased production costs, etc.

On a side note, please be aware that shell cordovan is in low supply at the momment, especially in Cigar/Whiskey/Ravello.

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up, though I guess we were expecting that for awhile.

Thanks for letting us know. This increase is much less than I expected.

I guess that blasted article in the Boston Globe foreshadowed this.

It truly sucks about the price increase, but perhaps a higher asking price will generate more buzz for Alden. I don't care if the price for shells go through the roof (I prefer not), they are the only shoes I'm willing to pay retail.

Glad I stocked on shell before the extreme shortage came about

I had a bunch of smartass comments to make, but I deleted them. I'll just say, this sucks.

Taken alone, the weakness of the dollar should have no impact on the price of a US made shoe.

Umm... yeah... until you consider the fact that nearly all of the shell is coming from horses in Europe. And then I'm guessing that all of the soles on the shoes come from European sources as well. I'm sure there are plenty of other components that are similarly sourced.

Correct, however what I was told is that Horween gets all their shell from Europe.

Horween uses shell from Canada and Europe. They are just the tannery.

Pretty much all of the leather Alden uses comes directly from Europe as well.
