I have found Uniqlo makes comfortable cotton socks that are *just* a bit taller than standard crew and shorter than OTC cotton socks, and breathe well. They work for me, at 5’10” with a 30+” inseam. For the price, worth a try?

On a related note, I wear OTC socks but find that they always catch on the fabric of my trousers around the calves, particularly with flannels--and I neither have large calves nor wear skinny trousers. The result is the trouser leg doesn't drape cleanly at the lower legs. Not sure what the solution is except either getting wider trousers, which I don't favor or lining the trouser to the bottom, which seems bizarre.

Seems like the obvious is being ignored here, the leg opening is too narrow. OTC socks will do absolutely nothing to change this, and I’m speaking from experience. It’s a struggle with any pair that this narrow around the calves, and the issue solves itself as soon as the leg openings is wide enough

“skinny” trousers won’t slide over socks of any length, filo di scozia, wool or otherwise

I've worn OTC socks in all temperatures. It is the only solution to the problem you describe. Indeed, with dress trousers or suits, OTC are the only sort of socks you should be wearing.

No excuse for not wearing over the calf socks, the only option a gentleman has. I wear preferably wool socks, also in summer.

I'm w/ these guys generally. I live in a hot climate and wear OTC socks year round. Its not that bad.

I have this issue with OTC socks sometimes too, and I also don't wear skinny trousers. It's still better than having skin show between trouser and sock, though.
