Hmm, "solid striped" seams like another contradiction to me, lol. "Reppe stripe" is probably the term you're looking for, like jrd said. Reppe silk has a diagonal, twill texture to the weave, but this texture is usually much less obvious than grenadine.

Yep, that's the one I was referring to. One of the most beautiful ties I've ever seen. Simple in pattern, interesting in texture, incredibly versatile and classic. I'm holding out for the 9 cm version.

1. Sam Hober (now discontinued) - "Brigade of Guards" (alternative website)

2. Corneliani - looks like a smaller scale "Oxford & Cambridge Golfing Society" (alternative website)

3. Cappelli - unsure

4. Talbott for Nordstrom vintage - unsure

5. YSL - unsure

6. Polo - unsure

7. Polo - looks like a smaller scale "Downside School, Stratton on the Fosse. Founded 1607. Alumni are known as Old Gregorians." (alternative website) or "Old Felstedian"

They're essentially irrelevant these days, and I'm actually surprised that a design as classic and simple as the navy/white double bar is claimed by an organization. Usually true "regiment" ties are comprised of more than two colors, or a more complex/unique design.

I choose striped ties that according to their aesthetic appeal, not their history

But it is fun learning about a particular organization/school from the 20th century that picked that set of colors and scale/size

If you look at my collection, I have an eclectic historical mix: Ties that are supposed to represent the troops guarding the English monarchy; Ties that are supposed to represent a golf club in Oxford; and then a few ties that are supposed to represent various English boarding schools.

I have zero connection any of those organizations. Yet their ties spoke to me through my computer screen and said "pick me"
