Rick Porcello pitched the game of his life for 8 innings, yet the Tigers lost to the Pirates, 1-0, in the 11th inning. Why did it have to be (ex-Tiger) Jason Grilli on the mound for the final out? As we were in a tornado warning, I listened to the game from the basement.

Yeah. Crazy game. A friends house was destroyed in Goodrich. His family is OK but damn.

I picked up Jon Lester for Aramis Ramirez (I'm already flush with corner infielders, just need Texiera to get his ass off the DL)

Picked up Andrew Baley off waivers a month ago when Hanrahan went down, that's been by best move of the year aside from snagging Guthrie. I also picked up Jason Hammel, hopefully he pans out.

Sorry to hear about your friend's house. A lot of damage was done both north and south of Flint. Fortunately, the storm kind of fizzled by the time it came to us.

Tonight: channel flipping between the Tigers and the Wings

Watching tonight's Wings/Black Hawks game will be the equivalent of watching 9 innings of Papa Grande.

I have Lester in all 3 leagues. He was smoking over his first 5 starts. He's slowed down quite a bit.

I'm only using closers in one of my leagues...

Cheating?

Come on- it's still rampant.

Every time MLB comes up w a new drug the cheaters come up w one to stay ahead of it.

So, do we still think Chris Davis isn't cheating?

MLB doesn't come up with any drugs and it isn't as if new drugs are just rolling off the assembly line or waiting in the wings.

Today's Detroit Free Press had an interview with '68 Tiger pitchers, Denny McClain and Mickey Lolich:

So how would those two Tigers greats pitch to the best hitter in the game today, Miguel Cabrera?

“I’d knock him on his ass,” McLain said. “That’s first. I would show him that he does not own the inside part of the plate, that’s No. 1. And then I would throw nothing but one fastball after another and let him try to hit it. But fastballs in, because if you extend it, you extend the fastball outside of the inside part of the plate, he’s probably going to hit it somewhere.

“I don’t want him hitting the ball up the middle. Not if I’m pitching.”

And Lolich would heed the advice of former pitching coach Johnny Sain — two of the first three pitches strikes — but wouldn’t dare throw last year’s Triple Crown winner a first-pitch fastball.

“Why anybody’d throw a first-pitch fastball to Miguel Cabrera is stupid,” Lolich said. “He’ll hit it 9,000 feet. I wouldn’t throw him a fastball on the first pitch."

I loved this!
