i dunno if it's been said but the reason i don't think pitchers should be considered for the MVP is everyday players can't be considered for the Cy Young, so it isn't fair to them. Let pitchers get the Cy Young and let the everyday players get the MVP. You shouldn't be able to win both.

i personally think the backlash against giving a pitcher the mvp will help in verlander's case... just like how king felix got the cy young last year... its the way of showing the voters are "progressive" in their process. now if they only were so progressive in the golden glove awards...

IIRC there are two sets of voters for MVP and the GG. Could be wrong.

I was calling you Billy Beane because honestly I don't know what WAR even means. You know the whole money ball, putting a team together using OPS and other non-AVG, HR RBI stats, Its a compliment, besides wouldn't you want Brad Pitt playing you in a movie?

That's not what Moneyball was about. It was about finding inefficiencies in stats that were overlooked by other teams. And it is funny because Baseball Today podcast brought this up yesterday. But the overriding point of Moneyball which I'm totally going to steal from Kieth Law is that Oakland and other small market teams MUST look for these inefficiencies. They can not try to win games the same way other big budget teams do. It is just like any other company. Some mid sized IT firm can't run its business the same way IBM or Atos or any other companies do because they will get crushed. But they can find to exploit the inefficiencies of others and use that to their advantage. Anyway, that's kind of a sidenote.

^ I can't hold off not saying anything any longer. Edina, we're going to have to talk about the collapse of the Red Sox. The fact that my O's (as pitiful as they are) could in fact knock them out of the playoffs during the last series of the year is just awesome to me.

The most miserable moment of my sport fandom life happened a few days later during the 2006 NLCS game 7. Thanks for bringing up those memories.

If only the O's could play every month the way they've played September for the last 2 years I would be happy.
